No I really think it's the daughter. The cool new thing to do around here is to put these signs of your high schoolers with their names on it (and their number if they're in a sport). SO in their front yard they have their daughter's high school sign with "Dani" on it. That's gotta be it.

Not right now. It's still there and it got rained on and snowed on all weekend. Grr.

This situation reminds me of one in my past. A golf course I used to play weekly/monthly had a car under some tarps in a back yard. The backyard bordered a fairway. The car was an Austin Healey 3000 in decent condition. Time marched on. Weeks became months. Months became years. The tarps deteriorated as did the car. Eventually it became a rusted hunk of metal with nothing salvageable. During that time, I'm guessing the owner got hundreds of offers from prospective buyers. It was painful to watch the decline of a beautiful car.

Simular situation, 57' Corvette sitting in a field near a house on my route with the windows half open. After seeing it for 3 years I asked the homeowner if they'd be interested in selling it. They said that it had been there for 10 years and would ask the owner. It was gone the next week.

wow- that yard is in one of the best neighborhoods in the best city. Rough. hopefully their minimal yard work efforts are hibernating for winter and will awaken with spring.

I don't answer my door either unless I know someone is coming over. There is only annoyance on the other side. I have a door mat that says "Go Away" too, but no one ever reads it.

Also, has anyone made the "a bike in the hand is worth two in the bush" comment yet?

I broke down in my friends neighborhood, not the best, late one night and went by to ask for help. My knock on the door was greeted with a hammer locking on a 357 and a "who's there". Makes you think twice about knocking on a strangers door.

Knocking on a stranger's door shouldnt be something that could cause concern for bodily harm. Thats absurd and unjustifiable.
Package deliveries get a doorbell or knock sometimes.

If your friend doesnt want people knocking, he should very clearly state on a sign which hangs on the door that he does not want to be bothered and if someone knocks, then expect to be met with potential bodily harm.
That should go over real well for all parties involved.***

Yeah, I'm with you! I'll answer a knock on the door, and I knock on people's doors? Why do we have to assume that people are threats first until otherwise proven?

In fact, at our rural home, people don't even knock, they just walk in. That took some getting used to, but it seems to be the local culture. That is, with people who know us. Strangers don't do that.

I've got my stories. All I can say is there are some places were this morality question of a bike in the bushes wouldn't even be considered.
