Fork re-chroming recommendations?
 

The Tommasini Lounge helped me identify this some what unusual '84 '85 Tommasini, thanks T-Mar and Kevindale. Air Fork is pitted and has areas of missing chrome. The full frame and fork were poorly re-chromed in the past and the frame has lost fork tip size spots of the second chroming in several places. On the fork the Campagnolo pantographing is pretty much fully filled in. I am looking for someone to trust to fully strip the old chrome, base coat (I don't think they use copper anymore, brass maybe?), nickel plate then chrome plate who understands forks and polishing.
Had trouble in the past with local platers, got a recommendation for St. Louis Plating. Has anyone used them or can recommend someonehttps://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...029444b44.jpeg

I used this shop for my Shogun's fork in 2017 - they did a great job. They do a lot of bicycle work, I talked to Gary Schultz.

They did the fork on my '73 Colnago as part of a whole bike re-paint, and it turned out great. It was ~$125, but only the crown needed to show.

Below is the Lejeune frame that St Louis Plating did for me about five years ago. Some niggles. They did not polish very well in the BB area and the seat stay area. But I acknowledge that both of those areas are difficult to get to for polishing. I found the overall results most acceptable and the unpolished areas kind of make it reminiscent of a French chrome job of the 70s. Their rates are a bit higher now, but I think I can recommend them with no reservations. Just don't be in a hurry to get it back.

Not in a hurry at all. I thought to start with the fork but you may have changed my mind. My latest campus/fixie rescued Italian was in bad shape when a re-chroming was done without good prep (rust). Then fork and frame got painted to hide the chroming, but it rides straight and no dents. I can get Tommasini to repaint for $800+ but it's not clear on striping of the two layers of flaking chrome and areas under the ST lugs that were rusted and not cleaned up. I will see what St Louis Plating can do for this nice old Tommasini SL frame/fork.

Thanks. A couple of names I had not heard or seen in a while. Certainly recalled from my youth. Took me on a trip for sure seeing them.

Was quite a thing when they showed up for the Sunday club ride, (which included a decent amount of climbing...) that episode totally killed the concept that "trackies" did not climb hills.

I've always seen good recommendations for Franklin Frame, though have yet to send anything that way. I sent my Medici fork to Bob Freeman (Fausto Copious over on Classic Rendezvous), who passed it along to a plater he uses. It came back in fine shape. You can get an idea of before-and-after in my Flickr album. If you're not familiar with Bob's work, check out his Flickr albums. Basically, I'd trust him with anything related to vintage bikes.
