I don't get it. I wouldn't do it. But the OP's not trying to profit from it.
But the OP is also breaking Velocals Terms and Conditions:
Awhile back the only people you could get repro decals from were "authorized" frame painters. If they put Mfg A's decals on Mfg B's frame they could lose the ability to purchase them, and their restoration business would suffer.

Late evening CL purchase of some wheels, when you spy this frame in the corner of a cluttered garage. Your heart begins to pound, and your mouth goes dry.... "How much for that old frame?" you ask, but it comes out as a squeak. Does he sense the desire in your voice?
"I dunno, maybe 200 bucks?" he says after some pause. Trying desperately to remain calm, you fish out the dough, simultaneously formulating exactly how you are going to word your "Catch of the day" post on BF.
This is our collective C&V nightmare. Haha.

I am entertained! Flying paint? Hilarious because I've done it, albeit with hot sauce or something. JB-weld fork mods serving zero actual purpose? A poke in the eye for the weight weenies, and a testament to the dedication of a man who would make a fake version of a real movie fake of a real race bike. Inception down the rabbit hole! Hell, I dunno. What I do know is somehow the OP has found a grey area in the counterfeit bike morality rules.

It makes me happy seeing the Masi on the frame. Oh sure I blinked and it was done. No, It took many coats of paint and stress and applying the decals near to stroke inducing! You know what I mean. I'm still working on the second pump!
Honestly, I'm shocked at the negative response. I'm reproducing a fake bike in the movie- sure with a better frame. If I'd used the sears that would be okay? This doesn't diminish the hours of work and love and sweat I have put into this recreation. It's not finished. This is not for sale. This is for me. Ya know- you apply those MASI white (only) decals and sit back and go- 'm there. I'm with you. I remember you beautiful bike. Ohhhmmm...
I don't get the hate. I really don't. If I were auctioning this off as the real thing sure. But this is for me. And if ever sold will be disclosed it's true nature. When she's finished I'll post. Regards to all!

I thought the CUSTOM paint match, combined with the fact you used a BRUSH, and used 10(?) coats, sanding between each, would have won some major respect here, but nobody even mentioned it.
Having done a thinned-out rustoluem paint job myself (I used a roller) previously, I can testify that it's no minor undertaking. We're talking WEEKS of a person's life, and countless hours that could have been spent doing something else (like earning money) consumed by such a project. Not to mention endless patience, and shot nerves worrying about drips.
These paint jobs are real "time burglars".
Having done a thinned-out rustoluem paint job myself (I used a roller) previously, I can testify that it's no minor undertaking. We're talking WEEKS of a person's life, and countless hours that could have been spent doing something else (like earning money) consumed by such a project. Call it humor. No, Trek, based in Waterloo, WI, was not around. Masi started building bikes in the 50’s, and I’m fairly certain that he wasn’t subbing jobs out for movie set crash bikes.

Do what you prefer because it is your bike and it is looking good, finish it and enjoy it...when and if you sell it remove the decals if you like and if you decide to make another one perhaps rename it a "WASI" or "KOLNAGO" "BARAMOUNT" or "SENTURION".

I can't believe some of you can't see this as someone having fun creating a tribute bike. Maybe it's the post christmas, winter cabin fever "cranks." <- wordplay. Besides the movie bikes were made in Bend, Oregon. Not Italy. Not Carlsbad. Bend. I see this as more like those Merckx Molteni bikes with the cottered cranks from Falcon. Relax. Anyway, I think he did get the tubing right! And he did a slammin' job. Enjoy it buddy!
