Peugeot Valentigny
I have never heard of a Peugeot Valentigney, which just showed up in Craigslist near Seattle. I did a search and discovered only that they were made in 1901. The bike in the ad is definitely not from that era! That Peugeot bike was the company's Centennial commemoration model that was issued, I think. In 1983/4, The bike was not called the Valentigny.
The name "Valentigny" was part of the old brand crest with the lion and wheel on it, I think denoted where the bike was produced in France. Looks to be in great condition. Not really a high value bike as the tubing on the frame was just a squashed (aero) version of Peugeot's carbon steel, high tensile tubing, and lots of people that bought these bikes really did not ride them, but stashed them away, as they thought they would be rare collector's bikes in the future.....so many survive out there in similarly good condition. Still should be a very good riding bike, as most Peugeots were. $240 would be at the very top of the market value for this bike at this time. I think it can be negotiateD down to $200 |

Valentigny is a city in France that is the site of one of Peugeot's bicycle factories. While on tour in '74 I rode up to the front gate and asked for a tour of the place and they granted my request, led by one of the execs who himself had, on a U.S. tour years before, stopped at an Air Force base and asked for a tour of a B-52. Never hurts to ask!

i am not in the market for the bike, having promised my spousal unit that I would not buy any more bikes this year. :-) Not too hard a promise to make, though, given that I am utterly out of space! But I was curious about it. Thanks to all of you for the info! |
Knowing that the bike was the Centennial edition, it was easy to search for info. The CLB brakes and levers are not very common here and are worth quite a bit, but besides that the bike probably isn't worth $240.
