Help identifying mystery TT frame
I recently purchased this orphaned TT frame set from Ebay. I don't often see them with the shifter tab mounted above the downtube unless its a high end Italian frame. I don't think it is Italian but I would like to figure out what manufacturer it came from and possibly what it originally might have looked like. I don't believe it is anything special, rare or even valuable but I'm still curious as to its origins. All I can tell you is that the BB has 1.37x24 threading, English thread. It has a serial number of S86227. The top tube has holes for the brake cable, they are teardrop shaped and have a short amount of metal tubing on the inside of the openings that does not continue all the way to the other end. There are no spirals or rifling inside the tubing. There is a "nipple" on the top of the seat tube just under the top tube facing forward. The rear dropouts are Gipiemme. I don't believe the forks are original to the frame as they are very generic looking and the dropouts have no name on them. The seat tube is 55cm and the top tube is 58cm. There are no other identifying marks other than the serial number. I have scraped paint off in a couple spots and it seems all the original paint was removed before it was repainted this interesting???? variety of colors. Please refer to the included pictures. OK so if know one has any idea of who might have made it. Does anyone know of a manufacturer that made there seat stays like this or had the dropouts configured like this one? ANY IDEA.....If enough people can say they have something similar (road bike, TT, any kind of bike) maybe I can get close?

Sorry I can’t help with your mystery. A respray of this frame might explain some of the brazen bits. I would strip the frame completely for a full check. |
I plan on stripping it down to the bare metal. Just don't have the time at the moment. There seems to be a LOT of paint on it right now. Possibly there will be something hidden under the paint, Some stamping of a number, or something to help.

The seatstay/seatcluster junction I have seen before - but not with the fatter stay section, nor the dropout treatment.
I've had several frames with the Top DT shifters, but never one with a mount that looked like that. |

The seat cluster reminds me of a Montagner but that's a very basic, seamed, BB shell and chain stay bridge.

Is it a 650 front end ?

Yes it is a 650 front, 700 rear

Did anyone notice, the shifter mount on top of the down tube uses external cables to the derailleurs not internal. If that helps anyone figure this out. Most of the ones I'm finding online are internal cables.
