I would love to have not only the hanger but the whole headset for one of my bikes.

Back on Track...
Funny how things work out. I put this on the back burner as I had a real deal Sauvage Lejeune coming. I could not see completing the build as originally planned as it would be pretty much duplicated by the real deal bike. So as I pondered here in the Phantom Works, I saw the tandem hanging there from the ceiling. I had bought it thinking I would get more wife together time on it. Buzzzz. Wrong answer, Hans. Wifey did not like it. She would rather set her own pace. So there it sits with its 650B wheels and Raid calipers. I had done some trial fitting of those wheels to this frame and decided against doing it. But now, why not. So this is what happens when one can't leave something alone. Shimano 105 cassette. 12-28 laced to Velocity A23 rims with 41mm Fatty Rumpkins. The Rumpkins are not long for this world. I did not care for them on the tandem and plan to replace them with something decent. Suntour Cyclone GT rear derailleur and Cyclone front. Shifting on the Shimano HG cassette is smooth. Stronglight 49D running 47/34 TA rings. Waiting on some replacement bushings for the Raids before proceeding further.

Now nearing completion. The Mafac Raid calipers have been rebuilt and mounted. I think I will make a ride or two sans bar tape as I may get bold and use a threadless stem adapter for improved comfort. I ordered fenders and mounted the front but decided to wait until I had the other mechanicals figured out. Fenders make transport a bit of a pain. Bike gets hard to fit in the car. That Idéale saddle is a Rudy rebuild. In the short time I have been on it, the saddle has been comfortable.
Some comments on the paint job. It is not holding up at all. This despite careful prep, etching primer, and left to bake in the garage for 6 months and then age in the basement another 4 months. No clear coat as most Lejeunes were not cleared. Guess I will call it patina. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ea43a983_h.jpg 20190807_194932 by L Travers, on Flickr |

...never. ...harden ...properly. Nevertheless, it's got a great look. I hope you can enjoy the clone until the paint falls off of it while the genuine Sauvage takes its place in that all-important gap in the collection. -Kurt |
I like it a lot. That's going to be a comfortable ride.

Funny you mention that. I did rattle can repaint in the 80s using Mopar touchup paint. I don't think I took the care I did then I did this time and for sure that paint held up very well for 20 plus years.

This is the final config for now. I may yet go back to the 47/34 double and put the fenders on it.
