A quick sanding and then I am ready for a coat of primer. Anyone used Stay.Bike paints?
I have used Spray.Bike. I would say, definitely use primer. It's not the most robust of paints. And sand im between coats. And do at least 4 or 5 clearcoats as the paint is very matte by itself.

How many cans of clear coat did you use? I ordered two.

I agree, but the purpose was to acquire a celeste Bianchi!

Maybe my next build will be raw...

Don't remember off the top of my head. We only had one can and did 4 or 5 coats and didn't run out I don't think.

That is good coverage!

If I do not use the second can I can always try to return it because Squid Bikes is here in Sacramento. That is who shipped the Spray.Bike paint to me.

Paint arrived yesterday! I know what I am doing tomorrow...

Weather looks like it will cooperate.

I'll take photos as I progress.

Beautiful sunshine today. Lots of coats of celeste!

Polished in between coats with parchment paper and the 800 wet/dry sandpaper after a day of drying. Lost count of how many coats. Used both cans of Spray.Bike Celeste 2. Will let it dry for a week or two and then top coats.

Did you sand in between paint and top coat?

I have applied both cans of paint and am ready to apply the finish. I am not sure if I should sand again to smooth out the orange peel effect of the spray.

I have two cans of the top coat to make it nice and thick.

You can sand if you want. It's not necessary functionally but if there are runs it's probably worth doing aesthetically. Just make sure to wipe it down after sanding.

Paint looks good! With a few coats of clear adding some glossiness to it I think it will come out very well. It looks like a good candidate for a bit of lug lining with a paint pen to break up the celeste dominance. Maybe gold?

I like the paint pen idea. My wife loves calligraphy and bullet journaling. Her steady hand might be better than mine.

Do some more sanding. Would be a shame if the orange peel showed through the clear. See how it goes with 1000 or 1200 before going back to coarser paper. From what can be seen you've a good hand and eye for spraying. Sanding is a big part of any fine finish. Maybe the biggest part of any fine finish. Should you sand through to primer easy enough to touchup. Since there is lots of coating here all you need from the celeste is to have full coverage with the color.

Frame looked very good in raw. As good as production work ever gets.

The photos are without any sanding at all. I used 800 grit in between coats to smooth out the orange peel. I'll get some 1200 before I clearcoat it.

Started with the clear coat yesterday and it is looking nice. Have to hold the can much farther from the frame because it runs much easier. It just means very thin coats repeated more often. Got three coats on before it got dark. It is going to take a couple of weeks of spraying each evening after work. I'll post pictures as I progress...

Went for a test ride and then finished it up.

I started the project calling it a coffee shop bike, but now I think I have a better destination in mind...
