Formula One & E motor Sports is all over Carbon Composites , NASCAR & SCCA is not.. I still like the obvious craftsmanship of a hand made steel bike frame , lugwork as jewelry, though accept the TIG welding as a good way to get the joints made... Nope,. it stays in tune for days, in spite of humidity and temperature changes that causes wood to swell & contract and can be kept in the boot on a summer day.. The perfect one to have on my next Irish Bike and pub session sit in and play along , tour.. |

I too am over the carbon hype. I get a kick out of all the cyclists here that are so excited about their new light weight carbon bikes and all they ever ride is the flats. An overpass is a"huge" hill.

Current MTB in carbon are awesome. Odd to say but today's mtn bikes, super capable they are but HEFTY. Reducing weight with carbon greatly helps but also an isolator for harsher hardtails. I'm sold.

I've had a favorite steel frame bike break out with rust (probably from my own sweat) and I didn't like it. I had the frame bead blasted and I rattle can painted it, but it was never the same.
Now I go with carbon frame (over built, not much lighter than steel, but strong) on my adventure road touring bike or aluminum frame with carbon fork and carbon handlebars on my bikepacking 29er plus bike. I still have several steel frame bikes, but I'm careful about getting them wet. Or sweating on them. The last steel bike I bought died when I was rear ended, on the way back home from a bike ride. I took that as a sign. My carbon Adventure bike survived a gravel road crash/ slide with no problems. It feels so great when I ride, as does my bikepacking bike. Steel was great back in the day, but it eventually rusts. That's my only complaint. Aluminum and carbon don't rust and can be just as comfortable. |

There is this really great place were the membership does grace, exotic steel bikes o'plenty.
Some of them have not just one bike , but some as many as twenty. They like to make fun of Carbon Fiber bikes, and say there goes a fool with his money. |

Because if you bike doesn't have 100% carbon components, it sucks. Is anyone else over the carbon fiber hype machine? I think the triathlete Mark Allen was quoted as saying the same about $2,000 for 2 lbs. One year, all my bikes lost 35 lbs. It was a great year. |

Because some people will lose the weight AND buy the bike. Now its a net of 12 less pounds for $6000. Oh boy- thats a steal compared to only 6 for $6k!! really though- many people enjoy the newest and latest. For road bikes, that means DI2 shifting on a carbon frame with built in suspension to the stays or stem along with a carbon cockpit and wheels that sound like angry bees. Ok cool then. Whatever floats your boat. |
No issues with the madness.
I know folks with bass boats who don't catch much...as if they even wanted to. I bought my dad some Pings, and he carried them and never, ever broke 100. Hunters with Belgian Brownings, weekend campers with Airstreams behind King Ranch duallys. I know my bike dollar is wretched excess . I'll fix that one day. |
