Giant Routens from Ebay

Did anyone here pick this up?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hugonnier-Routens-french-RANDONNEUSE-650B-road-bike-vintage-early-1950-039-s-/183740856487?nma=true&si=kio%252F7YK0TxZnXmjKsfQ9LBWIpjA%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksi d=p2047675.l2557

I put in an offer, we went back and forth a few times and in the middle of that someone else bought it, i think for full price.

You don't see these in this size (mine) very often. Or in any size for that matter.

Not me, but the Dilecta that comes up instead of this is pretty sweet too, albeit way smaller.

The JPR while cool as as heck was also pretty rough and pricey but as we know if you want that size you have to "step up" more often than not when you are lucky enough to find one.

Pretty cool. The price is high but not unreasonable for such a unique bike. Plus these old randonneurs are way more useful for actual riding than, say, a 50s track bike or road racer.

To think there are hundreds of people at this very moment in bike shops all across the country test riding $1600 mid/entry-level aluminum Treks and Specializeds. Makes one grateful for being into the old stuff.

Damn, that would have been quite a catch. One of my goals in life is to acquire the holy trinity of constructeurs - Herse, Routens, and Singer

One thing that's kind of nice (in it's own way, I guess) is that while I really love these old bikes and think it would be really neat to own one, I have never seen one in my size. In the few years that I have had the vintage bug this is literally the only one I have ever seen larger than a 58cm. Makes it easy to not lust after them too much

Lovely bike, Routens' hellenic stays are so classic. Not a huge fan of the all-red theme though, but I suppose I could learn to live with it.

I didn't see it but might have made a run at it had I noticed it. Don't think the price was ridiculous.

I've been keeping an eye out for a couple of things, and this SHOULD have shown up in my fairly regular searches, but didn't.

Hmmmm.
