I worked on and road my Specialized hardrock sport yesterday. I Greased the crank and headset, that is the last things I needed to do to the bike. I road 11.92 miles most of it on gravel and dirt roads and a short bike trail, I am at just under 18 miles on the bike, everything is working good.

I serviced the (Olmo?) headset on my $50 Legnano, and found strange markings on the steerer tube, "T.d.F. (Tour de France?) and "54". Anybody ever seen this before? The bearings were really dry and gummy. I'm afraid the BB is just as bad, but I've never taken apart a steel cottered crank. First time for everything, I guess. The crank still spins freely, but the headset felt good too, and it was really gummed up. I also did the el cheapo tinfoil polish deal on the rusty and pitted chrome. Some is beyond help, but on the salvageable stuff it worked magic. I'm very happy with how the the crank cleaned up. No $ spent today, and my labor is cheap, but worth it. Still topped out at $90 and 13.5 miles.

Got my 101km today with a 25km loop around West Seattle.

Started in Shorewood, through Rat City, Arbor Heights, Marine View Dr, Lincoin Park, Beach Dr, Alki beach, Harbor ave, then pushing the Trek up Pigeon point, riding the Puget Ridge back to Rat City and a recovery beverage or two...

Even the names of the streets sound cool.

Hey you were in my hood! I am about a mile north and a bit east from Lincoln park , one of my favorite loops includes the park, beach drive, alki and up Avalon to home. If you look at post #137 on this thread you will see a similar picture to yours,

Pigeon point is STEEP (As you know) especially if you go up Andover. Congrats on your ride and completing the Challenge.

made some changes this weekend...
removed rack
added shorty fenders in case my brakes give out so I don’t lock up wheels
changed tires to another used set I had.

Interesting, I would guess a early 84 then , the downtube logo is a 1983 logo but there was alot of early models that had the previous years logo's

I am going to enter another bike. It is a 1972 Raleigh Sports 3 speed. It came from the same bone yard i got my other challenge bikes from, I paid 5.00 for it. It has been sitting outside a long time but don't need much work. I have greased all the bearings and oiled the back hub, and aired up the tires that is all the work it seems to need. The chrome cleaned up good other than some small spots on the back wheel, it's raining tonight so i am going to shine the chrome up . I am going to save the patina on the paint. I like the looks of the weathered saddle, I may put some conditioner. I put a towel over it for the short test rides I have done.

Another 16 miles on the Legnano, local ride to the sidewalk library. No further $$ outlay, still at $90 but almost halfway there at 29 miles. Its surprising how comfy the weathered old Brooks Professional is. Saved $100 right there. I have a newer Peugeot PR10 with a newer Professional, and this ugly old thing is more comfy. Still trying to get up nerve to tackle the cottered BB.

Here is what I done tonight. I got all of the chrome looking good and cleaned the tires. Now I need a dry day to get some miles in.
This vintage Amway stuff dose a nice job on the chrome.

My plan was to pile on some Kilometers on this lovely sunny evening here in Seattle, instead I rode to the Pub and piled on the Calories, still I am at 40 KM to close out the first month of the challenge with more nice weather to come, according to forecasts, this week.

Got 5k in.
Seats too low.
Dropped 13 lbs off the bike removing the fenders, rack, kickstand.
And changed the seat to something from another free bike.

Tonight I got in a nearly 10 km ride including a sizable climb instead of going to the pub and I am now within spitting, or spinning, distance of 50 km on the Trek 520 - 49.979 officially.

I'm thinking aluminum wheels might save another 5 lbs....

We finely had some decent weather for a ride today, after work this afternoon I put 11 miles on my Raleigh Sports. I hope to get some more riding this weekend.

Went out for a ride around the neighborhood last night... I love this bike. Didn’t track distance, so I’ll just say 5k.

104 kilometers.
These Clunker miles and a few off road rides on my rigid Univega got me thinking about a MTB with raised North Road bars. Maybe this one or maybe one of the others.
