Clincher recommendation for Campy Record relace
I have a set of 36 spoke Campagnolo small flange record hubs laced to 700c Araya hookless rims that tend to not be able to run over 75psi. I want to relace them with some period correct or at least asthetically period correct polished rims with a hooked bead that will give me more options (100-110psi). I know a lot of the mavicclinchers such as the ma40 are anodized but I really want the polished look on my bike. Does anyone know of good rim options? Im down with affordable NOS options or modern repro. |
Sun m13ii are great for tires 23 to 28 wide. Polished rim and the label comes off very easily.

I did today's Eroica on a new wheelset with my Campy high flange hibs laced to 36 spoke Sun CR18 rims. Nice polish, smooth ride, 100 psi with Pasela 28s.

If you NEED the vintage narrow brake track look H Plus Son TB 14, but the Sun rims perform as well for less money. I don't prefer the wide brake track though. NOS Mavic maybe?

H Sons TB-14 offer great performance and look great on vintage bikes. I have 4 sets laced to various hubs and all are fantastic.

I had the same concerns, but with the trend to wider tires, I've gone to Pasela 28s on my vintage bikes, and I like the way the tire fits on these rims, rather than being pooched out on my previous narrow vintage rims. I was concerned lookswize with the taller brake tracks than I'm used to, but overall, I'm very happy with these. I considered VO Raid rims too, but didn't see much difference in appearance from these, and at $70 a pair, shipped, I'm happy with the CR18s.😃 The big sticker label is easily removed. I also had trouble finding high polished TB14 rims in 36 hole, too.

Should be easily available in USA given the distributor. Velo Orange also offers some nice options that would be worth considering, e.g. the RAID. VO seems to be clearing these out right now? 36h on sale around $50 USD atm. I don't mind Velocity Dyads or A23s (or H Plus Son Archetypes) on classic bikes, but the box-section offerings above would be more aesthetically era-appropriate. |
