CCM Aero

I picked this up not long ago. A CCM Aero. Much like the Huffy Aerowind it has a compressed downtube and aero components. Has Shimano ax, tourney and adamas components.

It is also very similar to a Free Spirit Aero I purchased in 2013. Similar set of components.

They have both already found new homes but I wasn't able to find anything about the ccm online so I thought I would share.

Is it just my eyes, or is the fork crown sort of offset backwards from the steering axis?

Neat bike, though. How did it ride?

This is a 1983-1984 entry level model manufactured by Procycle after CCM went bankrupt at the beginning of 1983. Procycle offered a similar but not identical Aero model under their Velo Sport badge.

The fork crown is offset to the rear at the blade sockets. This was a common aero design in the earlier 1980s. It accentuated the profile of the slightly deeper, more aero profile fork blades.

Another craptastical bicycle to add to my craptastical bike bucket list... the Free Spirit Aero. Oh you Free Spirit Aero, your wind cheating tubes filled with Searsie goodness; I've got my eye on you, now that I know you are a "thing". The CCM is cool and all, and to my eye, a bit more posh; but the chances of me coming across that, here in Middle Merika, seems dubious.

One of the better looking modern CCM bikes imo. Most were just plain 'crap' without the 'tastic'

Just the thing to make a frame vertically stiff, yet laterally compliant.

In my experience the Free Spirit was neither free nor spirited and better Moniker might be Broken Spirit, but craptastic it had in spades. I once got a FS Mixtie for $9.95 at the Good Will outlet, yes it wasn't good enough for the show at Good Will it was sent to the minor leagues.

The early Procycle manufactured CCM were good value with decent workmanship. Definitely on par with the comparable Peugeot of the era.
