Focus bikes info

I searched and found two old threads with no helpful info. The word "focus" makes searching somewhat difficult.

I've run across what looks like a Japanese 1980s Focus TD400 touring bike. Pretty sure it's not the same Focus that's making new carbon bikes today, but I could be wrong. Just curious if we know anything about the brand?

They had decent distribution in the Toronto area in the late 80's-90's, mostly mtn and hybrids although road bikes were seen. They seemed equal to most of the off-shore offerings in the mid-high range of the day.

The current Focus brand that I am familiar with is a German brand. The last shop I worked at was a Focus dealer and handles their high end road models..

I'm aware of a handful of different Focus bicycle brands. However, this sounds like the brand owned by Marui, a Japanese bicycle trading company. The brand goes back to the mid-1980s and has more famous sister brands that include, Shogun, SR and Orions. Like these brands, Focus was almost certainly contract manufactured by a variety of Asian sources.

Thanks guys. That pretty much sums up my assumptions. I’ll post a pic soon, I’m sure I’ll have questions. I haven’t messed with a cantilever bike in earnest before.

For posterity.

Interesting mix. Looks very nice overall, including components, but what's with the single bottle mount?

There may be a 2nd set of bottle bosses under the down tube. That was a pretty common location. in the early 1980s, when the seat tube was the preferred pump location. This bicycle looks circa 1983-1984. Or it may have only a single set of bosses to hit a price point, as that tubeset decal looks like an economical Tange 900/1000. I'd appreciate the serial number for my database. TIA.

Tidy looking bike with nice long point lugs and low rider mounts. I'd covet that.
