Do you know De Rosa Casanova?
Hi Guys,
so I was scouting for a everyday beater - solid neutral Frame an then add great components. But...I ended up finding, falling headover heels and buying this De Rosa. I have search this forum (found the Brain/Brian thread) + many others. The ones I find is a purple/pink color with a lot yellow heart decals. Mine is without heart decals on the top tube and Is 100% metallic blue color with chrome fork. Sadly the component have been change by a previous owner and is now Sora/Tiagra (I guess those a bad components). Do you know anything about the frame? When vas the 'casanova' build? Did It come in many versions? and what were the original components? (I want to post photos...but need more posts do do so..) Happy Easter! |
Casanova or Nuovo Classico? The first I’ve never heard of. The second, if I recall, is a second tier but still nice frameset from around late 80’s, early 90’s. It’s also a currently sold frame that looks nice but I don’t know anything about it.
Also, for the most part, De Rosa frames have been sold frameset only and builder puts whatever parts he/she wants or can afford after bank account is drained from frameset purchase. |

I don't know much about De Rosa, however I know what I like and I like your bike. Good Get.

The details on the Casanova look very similar to the Primato. Brain is a cyclex steel, EL-OS is a nivacrom steel.

Do a search on Columbus Brain tubing; De Rosa Brain tubing, and that will help you date the bike. Brain is from the early to mid 90’s I believe. In my mind I recall Genius was the higher end Columbus from that time and Brain a notch below. That’s a good looking bike and I bet it will make for a nice rider. I’d replace the ugly stem and hang some nicer parts and wheels on it.

De Rosa's Columbus Brain model, at least in the North American market, circa 1996-1997 was the San Remo. I'm not sure if the Cassanova model name indicates a different vintage or a different market.
