Any information on on this one w/unique wheels?
I would like to try and find anything I can on these bikes. I have done quite a bit of searching on-line and info is very limited. Perhaps someone on the forum has some experience?
Its a Mars Exclusiv 3000 (German). Wheels are Sachs. Torpedo 3 speed. Steel frame but surprisingly light.
And that's about all I know. Any additional information is greatly appreciated....

Very cool. I would assume the wheels are cast aluminum; wouldn't want to guess the weight but I imagine they wouldn't be as strong as a conventional wheel with tensioned steel spokes. Nor as adjustable.
Very unusual, to say the least.

I believe the wheels may actually be nylon. Regarding the frame, it appears to be a traditional, lugged steel. Looks like a fairly typical German city bicycle, with the exception of the wheels.

New and better plastics might now get a wheel to the point where the weight versus cost/reliability/ease-of-use might be worth it, in a city bike use scenario. Huh.

Wheels are definitely alloy. The frame is lugged but it sure is light. Looks like typical steel assembly.
I am guessing the bent spoke is a result of the security system? Someone may have tried to abscond with the bike not noticing the lock was in place (or forgot they had it locked). I am tempted to bend it back but don't want to make matters worse.
I am guessing that Sachs made similar wheels for mopeds back in the day?

If you have the bicycle, it's easy enough to tell if the frame is steel or aluminum by using a magnet. However, in the latest picture you can the chainguard is spot weldes for the changuard bracket and rust where the paint has chipped on the dropout. Typically, a cast aluminum spoke wouldn't deform like that, without cracking or breaking.

In the Netherlands you used to have people riding on bikes with a small petrol engine, the most common one is the SpartaMet.
The transmission is in the center of the rear wheel which gives it a very distinct sound. You might be able to find out a bit more that way.

I contacted the bike shop that sold the bike originally. Their sticker is on the rear fender. I was told they sold it to a Polish customer @ 15 years ago and that the bike was made @ 1980.
