Santa Fe Century Concours d'Elegance

Is anyone else going to ride a vintage bike in the Santa Fe Century on May 19th? I'll be there with my 1952 Raleigh Superbe Sports Tourist. I'll have it in the Concours d'Elegance on Saturday night as well, though I think of it more as a utilitarian machine than an elegant one. (I restored it to the point of incredible usefulness, but I didn't go so far as to hammer out the fenders perfectly or replace the decals.) I also have Busch and Muller LED lights hooked up to the AG hub and CR-18 rims. I'll be riding it in the 50 mile event. I took it out for a 62 mile ride last weekend, including 7 miles down a dirt road, so I'm pretty certain I could ride the full century, but I think a 50 mile ride would be more enjoyable.

I look forward to seeing other vintage bikes and meeting any other members of this list.

Here's my bike at the end of the dirt stretch down Waldo Canyon Rd., right before I took a break for a beer and a sandwich in Cerrillos, NM.

bump for a worthy bike, being ridden in worthy style. Springs and mega bag.

Santa Fe, NM should be close to a few members.

What type of rules for Bicycles would there be in a Concours d'Elegance?

Non-concours Gravel Grinder

Remember that spot in Cerrillos, NM well.

I may be in Santa Fe around that time. No "concours" bike but I'll have my gravel grinder Reynolds 531 frame 700c rough stuff bike with me.

May revisit this place where we were riding deer trails in November, 1977. Who can tell me the location?

I can't imagine a reason why they would be anything but arbitrary and subjective. Disputes should be settled by fistacuffs, Marquess of Queensberry Rules.

Sorry. I was thinking pistols at dawn.

Just wondering if repaints were allowed?

Sante Fe C&V Bike Show and Century

I'm going to take the wife and son down to Sante Fe for the event. We will have three C&V bikes in the Concours Saturday evening and will do the 25 mile ride on Sunday.

Should be a fun weekend.

Everything is allowed, it's only whether you get points for them or not. I know some judging will give you points for a repaint, others, no points Arbitrary and subjective.

When badass men wore knee high wool socks!

Umm, still do.

But now at least they have the coolness factor of being all black rather than my dad's logging boot socks of grey with red striped tops.

According to the Vintage Celebration section of the Santa Fe Century Website:

What qualifies as a Vintage Road Bicycle?
Out of respect for the now famous L'Eroica events world-wide, we'll follow Giancarlo Brocci's original criteria for Bici Eroiche: Your bicycle should have been built before 1988 (although vintage style bikes with steel frame from recent construction, with vintage look and characteristics, may be used). If the bicycle is geared, it should have shift levers on the down tube of the frame (exceptions include pre-1980 non indexed bar-end shifters and rod/hand manual operated front derailleurs). Your pedals should be with toe clips and straps, or for older bikes, you should have the original pedals, or something like the originals. The brake cables should pass outside and over the handlebars (cables can pass inside the frame). Tubular tires are admired, but optional.

My bike certainly qualifies according to those rules, except my Sturmey Archer shift lever is on the handlebar rather than the downtube, but that's to be expected - nothing about LED lights or alloy rims being disallowed. Nothing about repaints either.

I should be easy to spot - I don't expect there will be many other three speeds there. Stop by to say hello.

That actually looks a little more like it might be up in the Pecos River Canyon near the Pecos Wilderness to me, except that rock formation isn't familiar. That long ridged behind the the rocks looks more like the Pecos than the Sandias to me.
