Temporary paint/frame protection?

Does anyone have recommendations for a low cost, low effort frame paint/protector that will minimize rust but be easy to remove for future, permanent painting? Would car wax be a good candidate?

I'm acquiring a frame that's been stripped. Nothing super special--it's a 1987 Specialized Sirrus to replace the '88 Sirrus that I destroyed in a crash. I'd like to get it powder coated or put some effort into a DIY paint job eventually, but won't have time for the next few months and want to ride it now.

Thanks!

Car wax would not be ideal. Especially anything with silicone in it as silicone can penetrate metal can cause problems with paint not sticking later on.

+1
Anything oil based, like wd-40, ditto.
light coat of zinc oxide primer, or if you can prep it properly, do a couple of coats, and leave the sanding for the finish coats until you're ready to do them.
