Looking for vintage break pad suggestions
I restored an 80s Fuji touring bike over the winter. I put old school diacompe break pads on it to keep the vintage vibe. With a little more than 100 miles the break pads are toast. Any suggestions for better pads that keep the vintage vibe? Thanks!

+1 on the Koolstops. I like the modern Shimano style pad holders which make toe in adjustments much easier with a concave washer that allows you to tilt the pad with respect to the rim. These are dual compound wet/dry, but they come in all black or salmon color.
These are black Koolstops on Universal 61 Center pulls.
Dual compound Koolstops on Weinmann center pulls.
These are Koolstops with a mounting stud for Mafac, similar to cantilever mounting studs.

If it was a touring bike, and it's got cantilever brakes- the Kool Stop Cross Pads look great and work fantastic. You can sometimes find them for $15 a pair on ebay- usually they're around $22 or so.

OK I will happily agree that Kool Stops are great at what they’re supposed to do -braking- the bike, but the set I have in my Campy Deltas are the loudest squealing pads I’ve ever owned. They remain that way after filing and sanding. The Deltas have limited toe in adjustment. I’m embarrassed to use the brakes on this bike and find myself tapping the brakes to stop.

Yet another alternative would be to replace the inserts only on the original pads. Keep the vintage shells. If it's important to keep it looking totally vintage, this is the best way. I bet one of the Weinmann types Koolstop makes would fit. The original pads would have to be removed and measured. (Tip: a vise is the easiest way to get these out. Squeeze pad in vise and knock metal shell off with a hammer and punch)

I use the Koolstops on the Deltas: The earlier version is prone to squeal but the later brakes don't. I also use Yokozuna pads for Campy, I have those on Daytona and Chorus calipers. They look great and work well. Not sure about monoplaners though.

Have Koolstop stopped brake pad production? Everywhere I look a pair is $15-30.
Is there a cheaper alternative?
Aside from that,I did order a set of salmon pads so I hope they are worth the price and hype.

Count me as fan of Kool Stops, but if you want a good alternative you might try these Shimano shoes:
They grab really well, and don't squeal.
Jenson has them on sale:

I was just going to order them on Amazon. If they last at least 2x as long as the diacompes then the price seems worth it. By the way, this is the ride referred to in the thread title.
