Picked a Bridgestone RB 2 in excellent condition for $45 - I do not get it!!

On Friday, I picked an excellent - sparkling purplish Bridgestone RB2 in an excellent condition for $45.00. Bike is in an extraordinary condition (see photos). It appears like the bike was bought for home exercising - it came stuck in an exercise machine (Travel Trac-Mag Force). The bike does not appear to have been ridden that much at all.

Craigslist sometimes works!!!! I have had bad luck (good luck for my pocket book) with unresponsive sellers.

The Bridgestone RB2 (do not know the year) comes with all Shimano RX100 parts - drivetrain, downshifters and brakes. The rims are ARAYA (Japan) RS-430 700c (would really appreciate you comments on this). Appears to be all stock!!

All in all, the puzzle is - why $45? Above all in D.C.

Here is a background story - I drove all the way to the seller's house (35 minutes from my house deep in the heart of D.C). When I got there, I did not realized that I forgot my wallet when I changed from office clothes to shorts/t-shirt! Luckily, he had a PayPal account and we were able to complete the sale. He was asking $50 bucks and I wanted to give him $40. We agreed at $45 and I felt cheap. The gentleman selling the bike was very interesting - we ended discussing D.C/MD/VA trails and many other philosophical things of interest and in-depth! I gain more than losing $45 bucks!

Below a couple of photos I took to accompany this note. Enjoy!!! BTW, this is the second bike in excellent condition that I acquired within a month or so - earlier I picked a (see photos in this thread) Mercian Olympics 1986 in an excellent condition!!! Rare to find still bikes in D.C area in such great condition or actually buy them -they go fast and at premium.

Here are photos - enjoy!

The bike is in amazing condition, there's just so much awesome here, you know it's a steal already and then you can't just pay the guy's $50 ask?
C'mon.

I agree. Why not try to get your $5 bucks for 2 gallons of gas back home? Yes, indeed. The bike is in an excellent condition. I took a spin in my neighbourhood and it rides very well. I plan to clean it up, put new tires, handlebar tape and new cables to match the colour. I will post the "after" photos in this thread.

Reading the forum, it appears that Bridgestone RB2 are not that much in demand. However, in the condition this bike is + the price, I think it is worth every single penny to pimp it up a bit!

I rarely try to second-guess what the social dynamics of a given sale were. Sure, the price was well worth it, but if it's the general state of the local market, so be it.

I also believe price shaming results in people being less forthcoming of their experiences, for fear of being judged. I'd rather have the privilege of hearing the truth, if it comes at the minimal cost of withholding my character assessment of someone else from the public.

Just my two cents.

I don't blame you for feeling cheap, but think you stopped short.

Well, at $50 I wouldn't have bothered dickering. But, on occasion, I have been to look at For Sale bikes and gotten the sense from the seller that taht's exactly what they were hoping for. So it's a case by case decision for me, depending on the situation.
