So I stole this bike today...
... at least I feel like I did. It's a 1983 Nishiki Seral I scored off of Craigslist for $100. As far as I can tell it has all the original components except an aftermarket seatpost. A few paint scratches and oxidized aluminum, but overall a very nice bike. Wheels pretty darn true, too. It just needs handlebar tape, brake hoods, probably new cables and lubrication everywhere, and that's about it.
I tried to post pics but I don't have enough history here to be allowed to. As soon as I get a few more text posts under my belt I'll put some one here to get you-all's opinion.

Nice bike, love the Nishiki chainring on the Sugino AT cranks, and that it has cantis. But I think it's too small for you, and it appears to be my size.

...whenever I see a picture of a bike with that much saddle to bar drop and the saddle tilted waaay forward like that, my neck starts to ache.

I don't get this luck, I never find anything worthy on there. You have to be 1 either lucky or 2 be at the right place at the right time. Lovely bike none the less, quite envious (in a good way).

Funny thing was that I checked CL randomly out of the blue and saw this bike for $130. I was too busy to follow up, and a few days later I went back to see if was still there. The guy had lowered it to $125, then $120. By the time I responded it was $100. Maybe I should have waited more, heh

And your bike co-op professionally goes over bikes that they sell for little more than $100? That's generous of them. At ours, they ADD $100 to the as-is price if you want them to professionaly tune, clean, inspect, etc. the bike.
Granted, I wouldn't call $100 a "steal" for this bike. But a chrome-moly (hand built?) frame with pantographs, decked out in Suntour, early-gen cantis and half-step gearing, with a 9/10 finish, is far from a "beater".

I'm keeping it bone stock. It looks like someone rode it around in 1983 & parked it until now... I like all the original components. I'll keep my eyes open for an SR seatpost and appropriate saddle, though. Although the tires look perfect, I decided to order a new pair. The rubber feels hard and it could be a safely issue.
The first night I did a complete service on it, bottom end & headset, derailleur adjustments. I used a cable luber vs. replacing cables, they are fine. I just wiped the bike off... the thing shines.
