Nishiki
Greetings all. Recently I acquired An 70's Nishiki 10 so bike. I have restored most of it,but am having problems with the crank assembly. This bike has a weird bolt that connects the pedal arm to the crank shaft. The bolt a vertical flat on one side and threaded on the opposite side. I can't find this type bolt anywhere. Anyone come across this type crank ?? Thanks

Do the bolts look like this?

Your post reads as though you have a Custom Sport or an early Olympic, which would indeed have cottered cranks. See the response above and follow the links on care and feeding of cotters, which were very common -- even on higher-end bikes -- at one time, but which are rarely seen today.
