Cannondale AL Touring - quick rehab

Aluminum had oxidized under the paint and there was bubbling. Things seem structurally sound. Paint wasn’t great on the steel fork either so I think it may have been a paint problem more than a storage and use problem. I used a little Dremel flap sander and gently took the bubbles and flakes off. I preferred to not sand much and leave aluminum intact rather than get a nice cosmetic smooth surface. So she looks a bit rough, but I don’t care much. Even with the touring geo and no overhaul of the bb and hubs, this bike really moves. I’ve never had an AL road bike. There is a nice rear brake bridge for center pulls and rack mounting, but the stock 600 brakes stopped very smoothly and strong. |

The old cannondale tourers are nice bikes. The weight is good and they are very responsive frames. I like my 1985 Cannondale ST 400 a lot.

Very cool, you just don't see many of the early frames, in Red. 👍 Plus it's nice & tall. 😁👍 Lovin' my '85, probably an ST400. 😎

My son has that bike in white and its totally excellent!

It rode so well that I felt a little guilty for my shoddy paint job. But I don’t like to mess with the aluminum too much!
