Rode down to Harriet Island after work last night to take a cruise on the "Anson Northrup" riverboat. I met my wife Amy there, and we embarked on the "Sunset Dinner Cruise". This first shot was taken through a slightly dirty porthole, aft:

The sun sank below the bluffs before there was any dramatic color in the sky, so those photos suck. But coming back in darkness, standing on the bow (King of the World!), I shot a few psychedelics:

These were in-sequence, obviously, and timed exposures. I braced against the rail to shoot the shots with the flagpole "goalposts", so those remain in-focus while the background goes all blurry. Then things got more colorful as the evening progressed.

Ride in the mountains in late Spring and you occasionally will encounter Corn Doggers. Skiers who sometimes go to great lengths to extend their ski season :-)

Haven't been down this trail in a while, but found it is full of paintings now, about 8 or 9 of them. They all seemed to be a nautical theme, pretty cool to have.

Posted on the Touroica thread, but it's quite appropriate here.
Best I can tell they're a ZZ Top tribute band.

That's the long and the short of it.

The dood in yellow should be told that it's a bit early for his Halloween costume.

But he was and remains a prime example of "you can't make this stuff up."

But if you'll recall, Gugie (1) he was all alone in that 1980s-era kinda-raggedy limo, (2) he has some sort of European accent (German if I had to guess) and (3) nobody from ZZ Top ever dressed like that or dyed their beard yellow. So I don't think he was part of a ZZ Top tribute band.
But he was and remains a prime example of "you can't make this stuff up."

Clearly we haven't spent enought time together. @northbend, coach him up.

Rode to Edwards Point on my bike this morning from my house. Weather was perfect. I previously did this on a touring bike, and was woefully underbiked. This time I brought my redone mountain bike. The off-road went much better.

The view from Edwards Point. The river is flowing towards Chattanooga and the Tennessee River.

Near the end of a late afternoon 15-ish-mile loop, just a few feet from a busy intersection, three great blue herons probably pecking away at corn spilled between the rails from a hopper car. The whole time I was watching them, at least one had his head up standing watch while the other two pecked.

This is only about a mile from the Capitol building downtown.
