I pass the USS Intrepid often. It's a WW-II aircraft carrier. Now it's a museum. It's on the Hudson River in Manhattan at W 46 St. I don't remember seeing these planes on it. Hmm, how could that be?

that just shows you how good those USAF pilots are.... they can land a Mach 3 spyplane with no tail hook on a crowded carrier deck!
I think that might be an F-16 in front of the SR-71. It doesn't seem that they are sticking with the theme of naval aircraft on a carrier deck.

Is that a bit of gravel road from your ride, or is the road crew using unusually large rock for the chip-seal?

(some of our roads get large rock in the chip-seal, and then a coat of smaller rock a few years later)

the holes here are already filled with ground hogs, so I just stayed on the bike.

I could take more pictures of the Intrepid if you like. It's pretty spectacular, and I don't even like war machines generally.

I did find a photo on flickr that showed that there is indeed a F-16 and SR-71 on the Intrepid's deck:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/joshua...6/in/photolist
.... although I'm not ruling out the chance that the presumed SR-71 might actually be an A-12 or YF-12 or one of the other variants.
Earlier this year, I took a tour of the USS Midway in San Diego. Like the Intrepid, it is a non-nuclear carrier that has been converted to a museum. As a guy who has worked on jet aircraft, I really wanted to see some of the more uncommon aircraft at the museum. I hadn't expected to find the tour of the ship itself so interesting. For instance, have you seen the chains that are used for the anchors? They might be the ultimate chain for bike security, although one or two links might crush a bike.

Milk snake, basking in sun, hadn't been run over (yet.) Often mistaken (as I kind of did, hence didn't get too close, and was watching for cars and didn't see my finger while straddling bike in middle of road) for a Massassauga rattlesnake, Ontario's only venomous snake. The Massassauga's range is restricted to Bruce Peninsula and southern end of Georgian Bay coast and doesn't stand its ground when disturbed, although hospitals up that way do stock anti-venin. Milk snakes are common in Ontario (though I'd never seen one before) and eat mice.

You probably can't tell from this pic, but that's a Golden Eagle right there. 😎 I thought it was just another raven, the largest bird in the crow family, until he buzzed me a couple times. 😁 When they're close enough, there's no doubt about the golden head, and partly golden feathers on their body.
BTW, this is just outside of Kingman, AZ, about a mile or so from Coyote Pass.

those chains are so big that they mess with perspective a little bit. almost looks like a scale model.

Ride a bike, see a...horse...doing what?
You obviously can't see follow-through in a still image, but that horse was just swatting flies with its tail. No, really. I swear.
Even if it was doing that, I didn't let it spoil the rest of my jaunt, a cavalier evening ride on a French mixte through the countryside.

Popular Mechanics has a nice page describing the chain on the USS Ford. It says each link is 136 pounds. That starts to make those other bike locks look pretty svelte, eh?

Up in North Truro after 30 miles of pavement and 15 of gravel, sand in my cycling shoes and shorts slightly wet from a dip in Round Pond. It was as if we had the whole place to ourselves! Cape is fantastic in the shoulder-season.
Although on the cape, a lighthouse is not much of an oddity. Here is a real oddity to keep the thread on topic.
Berthoud handlebar bag, used as a pannier. You're doin' it wrong!!

I took a little 12 mile spin on the '78 Peugeot this morning and came across a bunch of Indian guys playing cricket in a local park. I watched for awhile, and couldn't make any sense out of it, but the cricketeers were having a great time.
'78 PR10 at Chatsworth Park. I know, the velcro strap on my saddle pack is broken. Been meaning to fix that.

I see lots of interesting food hanging up along side of the road. I often see a couple of cats and dogs gutted and de-haired hanging with any number of dried fish, egrets, ducks, any thing, including a monitor lizard.
I do not put up a picture lest I offend those dog and cat lovers.
