Rossin Performance EL Maiden Voyage
 

Ok. So build is complete. Some thoughts
1. It is NOT Columbus EL, something a bit oversized ( I was thinking OS or Genius), but according to the Columbus data base, does not fit a particular frameset... might be a mixture.
----TT is oval (31.7/32.4); ST (28.9); DT (32.3), SSs (16.4-16.8-14.8)
----Tob tube brake cable was easy peasy to thread.

2. It is a rocket ship. Even with the heavier wheels, it is a responsive gal. A little bit of bottom bracket sway, but barely. Steering is unreal (better than my Basso gap and the Colnago I have ridden). Stamp on the pedals and it fires forward. Look at a steering line and it goes exactly that way.
----Cinelli XA stem has not yet exploded.

3. I will never buy a gruppo from Ebay again, even though I think I survived mostly overall.
----Rear mech making some grinding noises. Will try to sort out but I think there is some funkiness in the cage and pulleys.
----Couldn't use the Record headset due to someone short cutting the steerer tube to a very low stack height.
----Record calipers do not like getting adjusted to thin as heck rims...
----traded out the worn 42 tooth and exchanged with a 39. We'll see how that works out since the 52 is intended for a 42.
----Haven't figured out how to adjust the Record look-style pedals to hold the cleat firmer.

4. Wheels are heavy, but funnily stiff. Had to reduce tire size to 23 because of clearance. Third tire the charm, so at least I have extras (Zaffiro and Michelin) for my next stupid purchase. I think it is a Campy Veloce hub with what I think are Rigida DP 18 rims.
----my first bike with a freehub and it is freaking loud...
----Rubino Pro Graphenes are the best tires I have ever ridden (clincher) so was glad they fit.

5. Bought the charge spoon saddle for unique looks...it seems like it will be pretty comfortable (short ride, so jury out).

Stripped and polished crankset looks okay, but after a fellow member showed me his work, I am a bit ashamed.

Bike looks very good.

Regarding frame performance: Now you see why I have three of them, and wouldn't mind finding a couple more.

Thanks! Absolutely do! My first Rossin experience, and I think I won that deal. Haven't tested her on rougher roads yet, but will try that soon.Don't have to search far for bad roads!

My only other search would be for a Ciocc, which I have never ridden...waiting for the holy grail garage sale for that one.

Apparently I bought a craperrific rear derailleur in the group purchase. Might have to search that one out.

Ive bought plenty off eBay and always had great results. You just need to find the right sellers, and when you find them, save them! Real sellers constantly pour out vintage and or NOS parts...

But your bike looks good! I have a Rossin with Tange tubing. Its one of those bikes that fit so well you cant help but keep riding and feel the burn!!! This thread makes me want to upgrade my Rossin, as it is running full Mavic (even the housing cables are Mavic..it came like that!) and Im more of a ergo/brifters rider. The ability to shift without reaching down has been a plus for me.

It's a beauty. I couldn't walk past your Rossin, if it was chained to a post on the sidewalk, without having a drool over it. I knew it would be a really nice riding frame. Shame about the rear derailleur but that's an easy fix. I just love your Rossin.

Bike looks great...just have one inquiry...should the downtube cable stops be switched? I mean should the one on the left go to the right ? And right to left? Reason I ask is then the cable would be on the bottom side of the downtube and make a straighter line (visually) with where the cables run under the BB...?

I think that re-routing will let the rear mech move more smoothly, which could help you reduce the grinding.

It is definitely a rocket. I am NOT, however. Haha.

I am hoping it solves the issue as well, but one of the back pulleys has an issue and the derailleur mounting bolt is not snugging tightly and has some play.
