Bracket for rear rack help?
Hi all,
This is for my 1966 Raleigh DL-1. I found a rear rack that is period correct Prestube BUT I can not find the brackets that hold the supports to the seat stays. I'm guessing that they would be a heavy metal and chromed but I don't really know. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Lester |
Easy enough to fabricate something with some flat bar stock and a drill. I do suggest you wrap the stays with something to protect the paint (cut up old tubes work well for this purpose).

There is no brake bridge on the DL-1 but there is a bridge to mount the fender. Here is a photo of the mount on a Sports for a Presstube rack. As nlerner says, it should not be too hard to fabricate something. Looking at that, I really need to clean up this bike. |
Back 40+ years ago, Bike Warehouse (now Nashbar/Performance) offered this bracket that kept the front of the rack from sliding down the seat stays:

The bracket for the Presstube Minor rack on my 68 Sprite is just a cheap formed steel with a hole in the middle.
It would be easy to fabricate one out of flat steel or aluminium stock.https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...360a4b74c0.jpg |
So something has gotten lost in translation.
I am looking for the brackets that hold up the REAR of the Presstube that connect the rear stays (for lack of a better word) to the rear axle stays. Yes it looks like a "P" clip, yes I could fab something up and I thank you all for those suggestions but I am looking for what might have been original, and I'm guessing that it would be thicker steel and heavily chrome plated. Keep those cards and letters coming!! Lester |
On the Presstube rack on my 68 Sprite they go right to a hole in the dropout with a chrome bolt.
