Bob Freeman's Classic Bike Show & Ride

For the PNW crowd: on 20 July Bob is holding his annual Show and Ride at his house in North Bend. The ride will be an out-back on Middle Fork Road and the Show is held on his lawn. Ride starts at 9. Bring your favorite meat to burn on the grill, too - this ends up being a pretty good BBQ, too.

When I asked Bob's permission to put the word out on this event he asked me to stress this is a vintage event; with that in mind, no CF or modern clicky-shifty-disky-brakey funk. Vintage bikes only, for the ride as well as the show. In the interests of privacy, if you need to know how to get to Bob's place, please PM me and I'll provide you his street address so that you can plug it into your favorite GPS and figure out how to get from where you are to where we'll be

This is always a good time, and of course if you've never seen Bob's collection you're in for a treat.

The Magical Mystery Tourists of the PNW received a special tour of Bob's collection. I'm going back, since I don't believe what I just saw. When you get to the point where a row of 5 vintage Paramounts doesn't get you excited you know he's got something there.

Just a few pictures from his sheds.

When did Bob relocate from Bainbridge to North Bend?

Visited him in September 2000 and received a uno giro d' il collezione.

For readers with a possibility to participate do not miss it.

Collection includes wonderful pieces such as a Flying Gate.

A most gracious host!

This looks awesome! @Drillium Dude, are we talking Eroica rules here, i.e. will I get drummed out of camp if I bring my brifter-converted '87 Sirrus?

Edit: Ugh, I just realized this is the same day as Radwood PNW. Hmm, cool as heck 80's and 90's cars or an epic bike collection and bike ride? Question above still stands.

+1 on this. It's a great event and superb riding with a great group. I'm looking forward to seeing the gang.

It is awesome, period. You really want to bring an "A" game, probably won't get drummed out but you should try to add to the collective for proper immersion. You will likely see many, many bikes that you will never see again and most of Bob's could be ridden on any ride he decides on. Do not miss this.

I think Bob is more interested in having old bikes and not new CF bikes. Of course, if you have an old frame with new components, you're 50/50 so nobody's going to say anything on the ride but they may not ooh and aah much at the newer parts

What's Radwood PNW?

If I was anywhere closer than a transcontinental flight to North Bend I would be there. I would love to see that collection out in the sunshine. If he does it again next year I might even fold it into a Seattle vacation.

It's not Eroica rules by any stretch. Also they are doing the middle fork ride which is a pretty idyllic ride. See pic

Even Eroica rules at least in the US are not that strictly enforced. I've ridden spud pedals for 3 years straight and nobody said a thing. I'm not arguing for flaunting the rules ! But don't beg off the event because you don't have goggles, spare tyres wrapped around your shoulders, etc.

We didn't say anything about your pedals at Eroica CA, Mark, but we sure did roll our eyes and sneer.

Aw Jeez, this sounds amazing.

Unfortunately, this is also the date of the Vintage Volkswagen show and swap meet in Shoreline -- for which I need to attend for old VW Camper reasons. Else, I'd be there with the ~ '70 Motobecane.

Have fun everyone!

There’s a certain BF member from North Bend currently pedaling home from Washington DC that is on schedule to attend...

I was out on the highway today (in my car) and saw an old VW bus towing a VW Golf. Pretty hilly around here and I thought that thing had to have had an engine upgrade to do that.

Bumping this in case there are locals whom haven't seen it. Ride is this Saturday morning, starting from Bob's place at 0900. Show and BBQ (bring your grill item) apres-ride.

What a nice day for a ride (actually, two), bike show and BBQ! Lots of BF members present today, too: @gugie and @AndyK from Portland, @northbend, fresh from his 4000-mile pan-USA epic, @Lascauxcaveman made the loooong drive over from Port Angeles, @Wildwood brought @SurferRosa along and @merziac was also present. I'm prolly forgetting one or two, but what the hey - it was a huge turnout with at least 30 riders and 70 bikes. Nice ride, though I brought a severely-limited gearing bike along because not many people have seen the Somec in person. Had to honk up the last short climb, but I was fresh enough that I decided to get another 20 miles in once I got back home.

Thanks, Bob, for another memorable event - this was the best one yet!

Pics for those who wish they'd a been there:

Nice shot of Masi Row.
I count 5 bikes, but I think I saw another on the ride.

I counted around 75 bikes, but I included some sleepers on the ground that were 2-tired and forgot their stands.
Especially that one bike under a tree, away from the crowd - hiding it's beauty like a modest Cinderella.
