1983 Miyata 710...with melted hoods!

Just brought this little puppy home from out on the Island. Worth the 70 mile round trip to get this for only $60...

How do you like the melted hoods? This is only the second bike I've gotten that had hoods this bad. The other was my Fuji Del Ray (see my Post on THECABE), and it's a nightmare getting this all off!

Anway...from what I've gathered, it's from 1983 as per a Catalog I found online. It's all there, and in pretty good condition (sans you know what) and should be looking pretty spiffy once I'm done with it. I haven't had a red bike to work on in a while, so this should look nice all polished up. Also the first bike I've seen/had with the Suhttps://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2045d01466.jpg

Oh, and the guy threw in the Cannondale bag, which he said he cleaned, but the jury is out on that one...

Don't discount the Cannondale bag. Depending on which one and the condition, you may have got the bike for $20 if you follow my drift

I follow your drift, and I have a few Cannondale bags...but not this one...

That should clean up nice. I'd bet it's an easy $20 on the bay. More if it was red

I love that bag. Have one in red for 40 years on my old Schwinn. Try it out on one of your bikes.

All of my saddle bags are the ones that go under the saddle. Personal preference, I guess...

Hi.

You can mount your handlebar bag to your saddle via this conversion of a threadless stem and cut down handlebar. My other computer died and I have yet to retrieve these images from Flickr. Here's t he URL to the photo album with my conversion.

Downloaded he album and here are images of the handlebar bag mounted behind a saddle.

Cheers

I've never seen anything quite like that. HOT CAR?
I almost like them the way they are.... almost.

Fortunately, Dia Compe hoods are some of the easiest to source hoods, although I'm seeing "Cane Creek" hoods listed as Dia Compe, but you should be able to snag some good ones for less than you paid for your bike. :)

Very cool! Pretty ingenious of you to come up with that, and nice to have shared it.

With the tattered handlebar tape and the melted hoods, it looks like a bicycle version of "The Mummy"...:innocent:

If you remove the hardware and stiffener, a nylon bag will usually clean up pretty nice by tossing it in the washer. I have had some really nasty looking bags come out like new.

How in the world did you find that around here for 60 bucks? I paid around 4x that for mine and I still had to replace my hoods among other things! That said it's a great ride and the paint is beautiful and cleans up very well.

Once in a while I get lucky...very lucky.

All appears to be in nice shape, but it will wind up being flipped anyway. Frame is to small for me , but I can't pass up a deal and I like detailing the bikes. More incredible is that it came with the pump and the Cateye cyclometer.

All done. Just some detailing on spots I now see that I missed!
