I’m thinking the 28h tubs will probably cut it fine at this point with some careful spoke balancing. Then it’s just a bit of glue to get rolling. Contingency to be built eventually are some 36h black ano Arc en Ciels and Weyless hubs in 100/120 with some light modern spokes.

It was advertised on Craigslist a while back as a prototype Cannondale. Someone here posted it and I saw, got in the car and grabbed it. The previous owner had bought it at auction with only the prototype Cannondale description (as he remembered it), unfortunately no details carried through beyond that vague and incorrect description. Aside from that, it has a bunch of nice weight weenie bits such as Al and Ti bolts, Ti pedal spindles, etc. Some changed out for steel counterparts for now.

I did. No markings on the steerer besides the dove. Interestingly there was blue overspray underneath the current color. Maybe the fork was for another bike then repurposed to this one when it was built? Dunno. Also of note is that I can feel boron fiber reinforcements on the inside of the fork blades same as on the outside of the chainstays.

I do need opinions on this. This Rascal was originally Pink to black fade and the owner covered it in red? Should I go back to pink which I probably don’t mind or go another direction and paint it Mojito green ( think Jeep Wrangler JK) with black fade at rear triangle? I will definitely get original decals on it, the boxed out Rascal ones

That Quantum is so mint. Dang.
My partner and I repainted and rebuilt a late 90s Klein Navigator for her. This was made right after the Trek acquisition but still at the WA factory, before it was shut down. It was a sports touring/commuting model with a steel fork, rack and fender mounts, and room for 32mm tires. We swapped the fork for a threadless Soma fork with more tire clearance.

I rode to and from our "Fast Friday" club ride today on my newly retro-modded 1989 Performance model. Felt great to get in 60 hilly miles at this time of year, especially the day after Thanksgiving.
Having said that, I suffered mysterious slippage of both my seatpost (3mm drop) and rear derailer cable (slippery coating), but which didn't get in my way of enjoying a great fall day.

This bike popped up on the local marketplace. Seller has it listed as a quantum, but I'm thinking it looks like a performance?? Any thoughts on that?

Performance, based on the rack mounts in the dropouts and the (likely) steel front fork—but the geometry still looks quantum-like. It would be a great ride—especially if it could take 28s.

I joined the family last year with a "frankenstein" Quantum II. Original fork gone and cut seat tube. Rides so nice though!

I'm very late to the party! but - I might have ridden that bike before a Thursday evening NEBC race, summer of '76. Gary Klein showed up with a blue bike and encouraged us all to take a spin on it. Too small for me (like your bike is) but wow! A rocket! All of us who rode it knew it was a game changer. (And when Cannondale came out with its fat tubed bike and claimed it was their idea, not!)

1995? 96? Quantum II. Everything everyone says is true, it’s a rocket ship of a bike. Got this one on eBay for a pretty good price, relatively speaking. Big size and bad pics helped I think. Full Shimano 600EX, and the paint was in pristine condition with only one real blemish. Had the dreaded sticky brifters, but flushing with triflow got them operational again. New cables and a new front tire and she was good to go. Next up is a new matching rear tire and new bar tape. Definitely my nicest bike!

I met a guy once who said he and Gary Klein crashed together in the same criterium and that was his claim to fame. I suspect the crash wasn't Gary's fault or I would've heard an earful.

1990 Quantum -- Bought it for the color and admittedly dont have more than 5 miles on it yet. I'm too spoiled by brifters and am waffling on whether to pay the tariff for nice Dura Ace 7400 series brifters ($150-$250 or so ) --- but will likely do so as Spring gets here
