Hello, My dropouts on my F a g g i n are stamped Gipiemme.How important is it to be using those components?Im building this bike for Eroica 2020.Im planning of having some wheels built using Campagnolo Record hubs with Regina28-14.Will it matter?

The manufacturer of the dropouts means nothing. The two critical elements are that the hanger is correct for the rear derailleur you'll be using and the spacing is right for the hub. Considering your F a g g i n is an Italian bike, it almost certainly has a Campagnolo-style hanger and if the spacing isn't perfect this can always be corrected with a bit of elbow grease by cold setting.

Wellllll, that's not 100% true, strictly. If you have Simplex or Huret dropouts, you need to pause and think about things, which is likely the root of the question. But yes, Gipiemme dropouts will most likely conform to the "universal" Campy standard.

Than you Kilroy for responding back so quickly.When I purchased bike it came with one Campagnolo part which was bb,The crankset was Aroe mighty 52-42 and wheel set are Suzue Juno 23-13 gears matched with Araya 700c Sorry and down tube shifting paddles Campagnolo.Front and rear derailleurs are sun Tour cyclone M2.I replaced rear derailleur with Campagnolo nuovo Record fits that hanger just right.Thank You again.Fogot what's your thoughts on rims to mate with Campagnolo hubs?I do have a set of Tiplo Campagnolo tubulars tires are costly.Again Thank You

For those in the know, it is often easy to recognize the significance of what one dropout/hanger manufacturer means in terms of compatibility, but there were many variations. Gipiemme also used a lot of Simplex derailleurs at one time or another, but I presumed that these were probably Campagnolo-style on a F a g g i n frame. Apparently I'm right based on CTony's previous post.

It still stands as a matter of fact that if you look beyond the manufacturer (which can cause confusion - for example, many early Simplex dropouts didn't even come with hangers) you can discern all of the component compatibility simply by checking the style of hanger and the rear dropout spacing. As far as hub spacing goes the manufacturer and style of hanger has no bearing whatsoever, of course, since that depends on the frame geometry.

You can put whatever rims you like on the Campagnolo hubs as long as the number of spokes matches the number of holes drilled in them! Unless if there is some kind of technical issue caused by the mixing of components (such as putting a rear derailleur on the wrong hanger or fitting the wrong sized seat post or not having long enough reach on some brake calipers) then you're welcome to use whatever you like!

It is very hard to offer advice to you without knowing the year your frame set was manufactured, and what priorities you have with the build. Are you trying to only use components that were available when your frame set was new, or do you want to have a solid climbing bike, or one that will be comfortable all day, etc?

Sorry all.After purchasing and tear down bike. I did some researching and came across ***gin website.I contacted Cristina and sent her pictures she told me year of construction 1980 and the tubing is Columbus AELLE.And to answer your first question.Yes.And I do believe I have those components.Answer to second question.For climbing,I'll try working on gearing without going to a triple crank.being comfortable? I'm hoping to find that sweet spot.Agian Thank You.
