Replacement tires for Ross 290S
Hi folks picked up a Ross Signature 290S and am not sure what tires would replace the rotten ones it came on. Tires embossed with Ross name like they are proprietary. Size says 28×1 5/8ths x 1 1/8th. Also says 28-622 700×280.. So are they 28" tires or 700c tires? I want to order tires but I want to make sure I don't order the wrong size anybody help me out on a tire size that would be appropriate for this bike sorry for my ignorance on this topic
TIA

Summarized: Tires first started being sized by the diameter of the rideable wheel, which worked fine as long as there was only one width of tire to choose from.
But as narrower tires appeared, this became silly, as now you could have two or more wheels with the same working diameter, and different rim diameters/tire widths.
A more sensible sizing system is the ISO/ETRTO, where you specify the Bead Seat Diameter - where rim and tire overlap - and tire width/height as different entries.
Unless you really push the envelope WRT rim width, all tires with the same BSD will mount to the same rims.
All tires/rims referred to as "700C" will have a 622 mm BSD.
Are you sure?
There is a "28 x 1 5/8 x1 1/4" which fit the same rims as 700C tires. A tire named 27"-anything, shouldn't fit a 700C rim unles you get creative. Or use excessive force. Or both.
27"-whatever for road bikes refers to a 630 mm BSD and will NOT take a 700C/622 mm clincher tire gracefully. Or at all.
700x280 is probably 700x28C, a perfectly normal size. Any tire with a 700C designation will fit on that rim. Width/height will determine if they fit in the frame/fork.
You can go narrower, a 700x25C will work too. But don't go wider unless you have some idea of how much clearance you have in frame/fork.

Thanks for the reply. I originally posted 27x but checked the pic I snapped and it is 28×1 5/8ths× 1 1/8th.
So 700c×25 should work.....
Cheers
