I have serious bike lust for this amazing machine. It is ultra futuristic as a concept TT and it looks amazing. It looks like it would be super smooth and fast. I love the way the saddle nestles on the top of the frame. Such a cool look. And those handlebars are so unique and gorgeous. The colors are vibrant and a great combination with the fantastic disc wheels. The frame just shines! This is oh so good and I cringe when I think of what the asking price would be on one of these if any survive in the world....RARE RARE RARE would be my guess. If anyone knows anything about this bike please post it here....Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment on the thread! That is really appreciated because I have put a lot of time and work into it so you are a gentleman and a scholar for the compliment. The bicycle you have chosen to show us is of course fantastic. Do you know what year it if from? I would guess 1989 or 1990 but I could be wrong. The whole bike is a futuristic work of art. It still looks way ahead of its time even today. I can only imagine what this would cost to buy.

First of all, I love the sleek aero design. I imagine, if I was to test ride one of these puppies, I would go into immediate ecstasy and they would have to pry me off of the bike kicking and screaming. I love the unusual saddle platform! It is ribbed and boy does it look cool. So does the chain disc which is huge. The handle bar set up is neat too. Imagine what kind of looks you would get if you rode this through a busy park. People's jaw would drop. Then you would be attacked as people tried to steal it. Well thank you for the excellent post and please continue to post more great pictures on this thread. It is noticed and appreciated. .

What is that handlebar? Does it have just half a bar?

It is a rare design where the bar goes through a hole in your hand and inside the arm by the bone. This allows you to be more connected to the turning and it makes you go much faster in the race so you can remove it quick due to considerable discomfort.

I like this version of the bike best because it uses bull horn handlebars instead of regular handlebars which I think look terrible on TT bikes. I also prefer the red Concor saddle here because it is matching and more interesting than black or white. I also prefer the white rear disc wheel because it looks like an extension of the back of the frame (because it is the same color). I miss the green areas on the frame in the other version because it gives it that cool Italian flag look. This is a really great bike with a great front puffed out front disc wheel. The asking price for one of these recently was ten thousand dollars.

Here is Giovanni Battaglin himself (the namesake of the bike brand).


It is said that the racer Roberto Visentini showed up to the starting line of the Prologue of the Giro d'Italia in 1985 with this bike. The story goes that when the judges saw the strange front wheel they forbade use of the bike in the race. If this is the case it is too bad because it would have been interesting to see how it would have performed. It is also said that this is one of the first carbon frames designed for time trialing. If anyone knows earlier examples than 1985 of carbon frame TT's let us know. When Visentini tested the Pirana three weeks before the Giro, he gained three seconds per kilometer with it. Apparently, this bike was never actually raced though. I would love to get to ride one.

I am going to start also posting pictures here of interesting components of vintage time trial bicycles so that these great and often rare parts are not missed. I will focus especially on cool vintage disc wheels. I will still be posting the coolest (IMO) whole bikes and frames.as the main focus though. Of course anyone else is welcome to do the same. So here we go:

I love most anything SOMEC so when I saw this vintage original wheel with the Somec distinctive artwork I was in awe. I have seen these on some bikes too and they look amazing. I know these are rare though. If anyone has pictures of Somec disc wheels or has one let us know! Thanks.

Sadly, the wheels need to have the same size nowadays. Even during a triathlon. But still...

Hey thanks for the compliment. Means a lot as I put a lot into the thread. Yeah I still don't know why they changed the rules on that. Kind of strange considering they let the smaller front wheel go on for a long time. Makes no sense to suddenly change it IMO. The good news is if you get one of these bicycles you can ride it on flat routes that are not super long rides ...and just for fun....not racing obviously (unless you have a couple crazy friends that want to race just for fun). Okay, my bike offering for today is this:








This is a MASI CRONO SUPER HI-FI - Italy 1987 - time trial bike.

Here are the specs: crank/sprocket/chain Campagnolo C-Record 53/39/Regina Extra 7-speed freewheel/DID derailleur (rear/front) Campagnolo C-Record/Campagnolo Chorus wheels (hub/rim/tire) Gipiemme-Ambrosio-Masi disc wheels/Veloflex Crono tubulars brakes/levers Campagnolo Record Cobalto/Campagnolo C-Record bar/stem 3ttt Moscow, 3ttt 90mm c-c.

I do not see a ton of vintage Masi TT's and I would imagine they are very rare. Pinarello's are more common as I have seen many. Not only does this bike have a beautiful geometry but the color design is beautiful and vibrant. I particularly like the shade of light blue at the front. The disc wheels are simple but the make is written nicely as is the Masi name on the top tube which looks like it might have pie crust seaming. I really like the Campagnolo Record Cobalto which looks unique with its blue jewel look. The pantographing at the crown of the fork is very nice as is the cool head badge. I like pantographing if it is tastefully done and I love the head badge on a bike if it is cool. The whole bike gives of a colorful and clean look with the nice groupset. Let me know what you think.
