I suddenly had this exciting idea for a thread dedicated to Vintage Time Trial Bicycles with exciting pictures full of Color and Speed that capture the BUZZZZZZZ and EXCITEMENT of these very beautiful classic Speed Demons. They are like classic Ferrari's with beautiful design lines and true artistry. The SUGGESTED rules for this thread are: 1. Please include PICTURES with your post (as many as you want). 2. Underneath the pic say what you like about the bike and any history or information about it or other comments. 3. Go for the COLOR pictures 4. Stick only to Vintage Time Trial and Velodrome bicycles (suggested time range 1980-1996). 5. Be respectful of others posts as usual. 6. Feel free of course to discuss and comment on bicycles that are posted...we need your expertise 7. You do NOT have to own the bike you post a picture of. 8. Post as many times a day as you want. 9. This Paletti Ghibli TT Reparto Corse from late 80's stole my heart the second I saw it. Its sleek sloping curved tubes and classic Italian lines remind me of a classic car. I love the classic old world decals and the exciting colors with the vibrant disc wheel. The handle bar tape is cool too. It now hangs on my wall.

My friend Glen Mitchell's Roberts track machine built by Geoff Roberts (Roberts modified aero tubeset). Glen rode this machine in the Team Pursuit in the 1980 Moscow Olympics (other events too).

I alway feel like apologizing for the modern bars (levers not so much), but that may soon be over, having bought a set of Ambrosio bars with the logo "upside down" which I'm hoping will become my new (old) bullhorns. Replaced rear wheel with early tubular Hed disc w/ Campy 13-26 7 speed freewheel. Still have disc, freewheel has been sold. Low-top Cons are my ex's.

This one was really the first that started it all. Was incredibly radical at the time. It took a couple years for it to start to filter into road time trials, though as always there were some early exceptions.

Suggested time range is slightly off. There weren't practically speaking dedicated time trial bikes in the first half of that range. Maybe you'd throw some special 28h wheels on your regular road bike. That was it.

Have a Cervelo P3 but this my favorite Did my fastes 40K time trial in 1988 on this, 1hr1min. I still ride it once in a while.

I love the Manta handlebars and the Lumbar seat! They are both quite expensive and hard to get. I have wanted both in the past. I prefer the handlebars though. Corima made them I believe. I also like bullhorns though. That Moser is awesome! I love the design and the whole bike. I think this chrome version might be rarer than the red and white paint scheme but not sure. I love this bicycle! The huge back wheel and very small front wheel make it so dramatic. Was this the bicycle that Moser used in his one hour record? Does anyone know? I also love the colors and design logo on the disc wheels. An authentic original of this bicycle would set you back a pretty penny I imagine. I like the red white and blue. This is a cool example of an American time trial and I think this is a bit more affordable. It certainly looks cool. What is your crankset and how does this machine feel when you ride it?

This is a sleek beautiful red machine. It is very elegant for sure. I don't mind the bars in this picture and think it looks pretty good. I love the seat with the extra lumbar support. That seat is worth a lot too I believe. Where did you find this bicycle? I am sure these must be rare.

I agree, these vintage Time Trial, Crono, Lo Pro, Funny Bike, Pursuit, Velodrome bicycles are my absolute favorites. They just have that beautiful design work that reminds me of classic cars from the sixties.
Remember that you do not have to own one of these to post. I am interested in what people love and if you can find a picture of it then post away! Thanks for your kind words.

One bike that caught my attention a few years ago was the machine that Jacques Anquetil rode in the first TT of the 1961 Tour de France. Which he won of course. If you look closely you'll see that this particular Helyett Speciale has cantilever brakes. As far as I've been able to determine he only rode it on this particular afternoon; all other pictures of that TdF show him on a bike with MAFAC centerpulls.

traded for this one the other day from a CL listing... i think they only made 12 of them as a promo for H&M dept store in london. this will probably piss someone off, but i've since replaced the single speed freewheel with an Atom 3 speed 16-19-22 freewheel.. fits on the hub just fine. waiting for some parts to set up a shifter. put a wood surfboard mini fender on the back to troll the surfers on the beach i ride to.

Of course this is an impeccable bicycle and the gentleman makes some excellent points. Any future observations you have on vintage time trials or any bicycles posted here would be most appreciated.
I suppose it falls on me to explain my early time range (and it concurs with you that early examples are the vast exception). I am basing it on this information of which I quote:

"The first model of this bike was built in the mid-to-late 70s, by Daniel SALMON, and was he claimed, the first ever low-profile bike of modern times. It was used by the French National Amateur team. Because Salmon thought it was quite revolutionary he called it just that - le Velo Revolutionnaire,a nd even to this day his down-tube transsfers still have this name written in them." It is possible that the date given for this bicycle is wrong which would make my time range too early. The general idea of the thread is to include bikes from approximate time range so I ask for wiggle room.

It is a cool looking bike and it sounds like you proved it's worth on that time trial. Must have been a lot of fun. I have seen this bike go for a reasonable price which is nice for a change.
