Centrix Stems
Does anyone have any info on Centrix stems? Listed in Velobase, but not much info and not much came up on a search here. What is the vintage range? Any other info out there? Thanks!

Hello Chris, Centrix was a french brand created by the firm Gentil et Cie in 1923 which produced stems and bars of both steel and alloy. The company ceased play in 1962. At times in its history it worked with MAVIC and with Freres Huret. There were Centrix badged derailleurs which were licensed from Huret. The Schwinn Continental tenspeed of 1960-61 came with a Centrix alloy stem. Some of their stem models were distinctive for their use of a double binder. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1a30cb1401.jpg The name can be a source of confusion as it his also seen on bicycles and coaster brakes. These are unrelated to Centrix brand stem and bar products. ----- |
Thank you! Very helpful!

Manufacturer catalogue illustration for the Schwinn Continental Sports model bicycle of 1960 showing the distinctive double binder of its Centrix stem. Not all 1960 Continentals received the Centrix stem. Some came through with the Philippe model Nr. 36. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...186a7a3fbe.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3583e88db0.jpg ----- |
