I’m including the link to the thread with the similar problem on my Cinelli. Similar issues that were solved by a simple thread chasing. Only difference is my frame was NOS and likely had never had any new frame prep done. It will probably cost $40 or $50 but I think very good odds it will solve the problem.

Should I get this BB shell faced?

The bottom bracket shell faces are not parallel. The cup has threaded its way into this state. The shell and or the threads are distorted and or are not concentric at this point. This was all quite predictable.
I have been here and done that. forget facing and chasing the threads at this point. Spend that money on an Edco eccentric lock cartridge bottom bracket, alternate would be a Mavic (requiring the chamfer facing)

I'd chase the threads and mill the faces flat again, and THEN go from there. I agree that this is a framebuilder-type of problem, because the BB shell may even be crooked. It'd be nice to put the frame on a jig to see what's off.

My dart toss- deformed by a vise.
chasing the threads will provide for some alignment between the sides- trouble is it probably really needs More material on one side of the circle ( opposite the larger gap at cup to spindle ) so that is the problem- the cup can go in, even square if the ends are faced, probably with a washer or two total- keep track of the overall width... but will the cups stay in place when only 55-60% of the circle is retained? Not a great prognosis.

Velo Classique

wayne has the answer- two widths.

Art, love, time and $ equation
edco cartridge $35-40
special tool ( keeps the aluminum faces nice) 25-30 can be done without if you have a good assortment of wrenches.
shipping ? 10-15

Why is this such an issue to save an otherwise whapped frame?

I did not realize that the Edco cartridges were that affordable since they are becoming scarce. I was just going at it with a machinist's mind. I spent the last 25 years solving problems like this on old obsolete metalworking machinery just to keep them running and producing. I've done stuff on bikes that would be considered a waste of time to save the frame or wheel/rim/whatever. In the end, my boss was always happy (although he hated how long it took), and my bike customers were usually happy to keep the bike (although they never understood why it cost so much). In my home shop I've made tooling for sale to niche markets, and situations like these cry out to me for help. I'm retired now, and I just don't want to do the hours it takes to make that stuff anymore. Anyway thanks for letting me ramble.
