2020 C&V Bikes/People Event Calendar?

Having done a couple of events with other C&V/Bike Forum members I can personally attest to how much fun it is. For me, the season is coming to a close and there will be many hours in the basement on rollers before I get the chance to do it again. That said, nothing motivates me to do what I don't want to like plans for an upcoming event(s). With that in mind I'd like to throw out some ideas for us to get together, ride or attend an organized event and have a good time. Some of the ones I'm suggesting are already BF staples and there's the possibility of us doing something on our own like the Cherohala Skyway/Foothills Parkway and surrounding area(s).

Updated 10-31-19

JANUARY
1-11 Brazen Dropouts Swap Meet in Madison

FEBRUARY
2-8 CIBA Swap Meet, Noblesville, IN

MARCH
? KY Bourbon BF Event PRE-RIDE

APRIL
4-5 Eroica California - Cambria, California
4-15 thru 19 Cycle Zydeco in Louisiana
A multi day tour that used to give (and may still) to a charity sponsored by Bernard Hinault

? KY Bourbon Tour, BF Event

? Vino Fondo (about wine), somewhere in Missouri.

? Greater Chicagoland Spring Classic & Vintage - Crystal Lake, Illinois

MAY
5-17? Storming Of Thunder Ridge
5-22 to 24 Horsey Hundred

JUNE
6-6? Cherohala Challenge
*BF Event Foothills Parkway/Cherohala Skyway

? RAIL ride across IL

JULY
7-19 RAIN

? ODRAM ride across MI

AUGUST
? RAW ride across WI

8-15 Mount Washington Hillclimb

SEPTEMBER
9-20 Bike The Barns, Columbus WI
*Possible BF Event @ Mineral Point get together/ride in conjunction with Bike The Barns

CINO! (The weekend after Labor Day)

9-16? Carmel Indiana Rollfast Fondo

? Bourbon Country Burn in late September, 3 days of riding.

OCTOBER
10-10 French Fender Day - Lyme Connecticut at Peter Weigle's Atelier

Kent Jones Century Jackson TN

? Appleknocker in Pere Marquette, IL

10-16 thru18 Hilly Hundred

Those are some of the ones that caught my eye. I tend to like one day events or anything where I don't sleep on the deck or in a tent; I'm officially "camped out". Which of these events (or others not listed) would interest folks here enough to show up, ride and hang out?

Don't forget the 3rd annual Bourbon and Tobacco Tour - planning on a mid-April weekend. Recon ride late March?

Horsey Hundred - May 22-24. Might conflict with SOTR.

Bourbon Country Burn in late September, 3 days of riding.

Also early in October the Kent Jones century in Jackson, TN. Good warmup for HH. Was on Oct 12th this year.

There was some talk of a ride in the Mineral Point area in September too.

That one is only 90 minutes or so from Mineral Point. Maybe it could be in conjunction with some rides out of there.

I forgot about the Bourbon pre and actual rides. I have those down now Dale. I noted IAB's mention of the Chicago Spring Vintage ride, it's in April as well.

Ya. I only do that stuff if work pays for the ticket.

But I think we would all appreciate it very much if you update your first post with the rides we feed you.

I like Tom's idea/concept for the calendar, but it was far emptier than I expected it would be. Don't think we lose much at all if we go with nomad.

Will do; see I told you I wasn't very sharp

If anybody here runs up on the actual 2020 dates for the rides listed, please post it and I will add it in chronological order. Once we have a pretty complete listing I'd like to do a poll on which events/dates have the greatest viability.

Oct 10 French Fender Day - Lyme Connecticutt at Peter Weigle's Atelier

Peter usually says "this is my last one", but his minions won't allow him to stop. It's always the weekend before Columbus Day.

I'll be pimping the heck out of this one early and often.

Also, Bob Freeman always has a vintage Show and Ride in Northbend, Washington, usually on a Saturday near the end of July. It's informal, but argueably has a better lineup of bikes to oogle over than even Eroica California's Concours event (Bob is one of the judges there). It costs nothing to attend, but you should contribute some food and drink for the after ride.

Press the '+' in the lower right corner. Oh wait, that's how to add it to your calendar.

Then when you create an event, I hope you can choose the calendar to which you add the event.

Please try this yourself and report back - I tried to add FFD on the C&V calendar, saved, looked back, couldn't find it.

@gugie, I assumed it's possible, but I was wrong. I looked this up just now. I don't know how to determine the owner. @non-fixie, do you know?

I'm just tossing these in there.... and I think some of you have different PC screens than I do. This Tandy 100 is a little slow... Not all have a chance to ogle bikes, but we've learned to "make do," eh?

January: Brazen Dropouts-Madison.
February: CIBA Swap Meet (funds the Hilly Hundred) in Indianapolis. Where I met @sloar and @nomadmax. Even so, I'll go back.

April: Vino Fondo (about wine), somewhere in Missouri. Also one in Sikeston, so there's a chance to meet Arkansas folks.
April: Chicagoland spring ride, but don't park where you shouldn't, or kiss your car goodbye.

May: Storming of Thunder Ridge, Lynchburg VA. Already on some calendars, as some of us are repeaters and then some....

June: I'm open. I'll be doing the 1000-mile Children's Cancer Challenge again, and have discussed adding in some centuries, etc to take the pressure off. This year, I rode 29 of 30 June days. Mainly because I had to, to get the miles. 308 of them in the rain.

June: I've heard RAIL goes across Illinois.

July: RAIN across Indiana. Can't be as hot as last year.

End of July/Early August: ODRAM across Michigan? Mosquito season.

August: RAW across Wisconsin. 1-day double century (225) or back-back centuries with a party on Saturday night at the 130 mile mark. You back-track 2.5 miles on Sunday to get the extra 5 in to make that day a century, too.

September: Sounds a lot like Bike the Barns, unless I can get Point Bike off the ground.
September: Giro de Montagna in St. Louis. 3 days of crits in different parts of a bike-mad city, with a Sunday 100m when the crit is in the Italian section.
September: Ride the Rivers, St. Charles, MO. The Arch, urban riding, industrial areas, Islands, ferries, bridges, and a suburban yuppie finish line.
September: Bike MS (either day/both have 100-mile routes). Mainly for the great venue at Lewis & Clark Community College in SW Illinois.

October: Appleknocker in Pere Marquette, IL.
October: Hilly Hundred. (The format just oozes time to hang out)

November;? I dunno. This weekend I'm riding Cranksgiving, where you ride from store to store, pick up food for those who need it, and the SAG hauls it around for you. (so that you don't just buy light ramen).

I have to say, I never started out in 2019 to ride as much. 5 metrics, 8 full centuries, 1000-mile June. I don't regret a second of the heat in July, or the rain in June, or the cold and rain last weekend. It happens, you ride. Best lesson learned: get a hotel that lets you check out late.

Would be neat to cross IL, IN, MI, and WI, and then maybe catch a "C&V" leg of RAGBRAI.
