OK, it ain't steel, but it is 25 years old..... '97 Cannondale T900. The fenders were very handy dealing with all the slushy, salty snow-melt this past Sunday when temps hit 60. (pic is from back in the fall...)

My touring bikes have fenders:

One of the things I've learned is to not mount the fenders close to the tires, unless you like sitting on your butt in the rain digging gumbo out from between them with a stick.

Posted this one on the forums in other places and with different setup. This is the most current, drop bars, bottom bracket dyno and stem shifters. The fenders are Velo Orange.

Apparently fenders have become more popular in our household since my previous post.
Mrs non-fixie's Bridgestone GrandTech GR-27 (a bike that fully deserves to be mentioned by its full name):
My weight weenie Jonkers Super. 10.00 kilograms as pictured. The saddle was replaced immediately after weighing and taking this picture. The rest turned out to be pretty damn good:

The name seems to have been chosen deliberately:
In the 1950's the brand was taken over by Ets Berger, also a Saint-Etienne bicycle manufacturer. They kept the name Robust alive, and even sponsored racing activities:
In the late 1980's the story get s a little fuzzy. There was a takeover by a wood merchant, and shortly after the Berger firm ceased its activities.
Based on the decals and the BSC threading I believe my frame to be from the early eighties. I bought the frame on ebay.fr because of the looks and its rare large size. A gamble that turned out well.

Rebuilt this one a few weeks ago, has mudguards - do they count?
Still a few things to complete, better bar grips, toe clips, a set of Paselas to replace those nasty tanwalls with the centre ridge that make the bike feel like it's falling over when you take a corner.

I've used vinyl baseboard in the past. The right amount of rigidity, cheap, and easily cut. Plenty of examples of patterns online, such as this one. Leather works, too, but it needs to be fairly thick, much thicker than a leather jacket. A friend used the top of a leather saddle that had torn at the rivets.
