Thanks, Ben - the other thing I noticed when I was in post-production was that the sharp focus revealed a bunch of "steps" throughout the photo if you see what I mean. I thought that was pretty neat.

My point exactly, the slight change from black to grey to white along with the formal quality makes the eye move around as well as in and out.
