My wife drives an '07 S40 and I used to drive it on our trips around California, which is how I got my first great impression of Volvos. The only older ones I can relate to belonged to the parents of friends back in high school and I never personally drove them... Here in California it's not so easy to modify post-1976 vehicles and still get them to pass SMOG, so tuning such cars always struck me as a bit of a hassle.

After being a car owner since I was in high school, a couple of years ago I traded in my Subaru Outback (my 2nd one—love that car) for a used Toyota Prius for my daughter. I can’t say I’m completely car-less now as I borrow my wife’s car frequently (also a Toyota Prius) and utilize rentals or ZipCar when I need to. I still dream of rehabbing a Karmann Ghia at some point or at least having a car up on blocks in my yard, but I’ve enjoyed being car free more than I imagined.

My other hobby is Golf. I am more of a 9 hole or chip and put golfer to keep costs down and get more exercise. I hate paying $100 for a round at a fancy country club and riding around in golf carts (unless of course a vendor is paying).

I wish I only had my bike hobby, but I also spend money on photography, flashlights, tools (lots of tools), and home improvement projects. There always seems to be a new hobby or something to start collecting over the horizon. I need to finish collecting soon so I can start selling stuff off in a few years when we retire.

Hi All,
Here is another hobby of mine besides cameras, watches, fountain pens and of course bikes.....It's an original owner 1990 SAAB SPG Red Box. It is the only new car I have ever owned, I bought it from a dealer in Sacramento Ca. The dealer had 2 of them on the back lot a red one and this black one. For some reason they never sold and both were going to be 2 years old in one month, go figure.
He wanted to unload both of them before they turned two and was desperate to sell and that's how I ended up with the very rare factory whale tail and the upgraded 16's with the tire upgrade...it only had 72 miles on it, and I wish I had the money to buy them both!
I have been looking for another one without any success.

When your not buying bikes what else are you guys spending your hard earned money on? Two years ago I finally made the commitment of learning how to play guitar. I’ve went through several acoustic guitars before finding the right ones. Now that I’m set I’m finally ready to start looking for bikes again. Those were pretty good running cars as I recall...I had a popcorn popper two cycle free wheeling turtle back Saab as the first car I ever purchased. Once I was out driving and the clutch hydraulics went out, it was either the slave or master cylinder. I charted out the route in my head to avoid any big hill stops, and drove it to the shop , shutting it offf whenever I had to stop for a light, then jumpstarting it in low with just starter motor, free shifting with the free wheeling along the way. Good fun.
Got tired of mixing the oil in wiht the gas.

I’ve recently gotten myself into the Hollywood memorabilia auction scene, which is its own rabbit hole.
I’m trying to purchase items on auction and then flip them on eBay, we will see how that goes.
I currently have a number of wardrobe items worn by stars in movies, as well as props.
kinda fun.
among other things, I own the complete pool table set used in the Django unchained film (pool table, cues, rack, and the 9 ball), as well as a backup skull for the epic scene where Leonardo DiCaprio uses a saw to cut the skull of “Old Ben” to demonstrate the unique attributes of the “negro”.
I also have wardrobe worn by Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz, and other stars.
it’s a rabbit hole, for sure.

Sailboats and canoes have always been a big part of my existence. And like bikes, great deals on fixer uppers abound. I'm trying to focus my resources on a bit more infastructure to help move some projects along. I'm tired of working on boats in the drive way and ive got some more involved glass work to do, so I'm putting up one of those heavy duty tarp garages on a pressure treated skid "pallet". Apparently lumber prices have trippled, so here I am staring at a $700 800 pound pallet..
