Hello, I am new to the world of motorcycles. In fact, I have yet to get one. haha

So, I had a traumatic brain injury in 03. Changed my life 100%. For the better.

I was left with no smell and about 8% of my vision. So, I cannot drive.

I want a bike, so I can take it all apart, piece by piece, look at how it works and put it all back together again. I just want to do this again and again. Then, maybe I can fix it up and sell it.

My uncle used to build them. He gave me a bunch of cool paperwork for Christmas.

I also just got a book on how to rebuild and restore classic Japanese motorcycles.

I am aware, that there are things, no matter how hard I try, I would be unable to do. Like an engine rebuild. But, I would still try. Hell, doctors told my family I would be a vegetable. Then, when I woke up from my coma, that I would be blind. Which, I was when I first woke up. So, if I can get through death, haha, why not a bike rebuild?

It is hard to find a place I trust, when getting one. I really want to spend less than $1000.

I know shipping is high. I mean, if I could drive, I would go all over the U.S., getting them. But, I cannot.

Any advice on a good place to look, good starter motorcycle and a good price to spend?

I'm confused. You want bike as in bicycle or motorcycle?

So if you can't drive a car, can you ride a motorcycle? Or do you want a motorcycle just to take apart and put back together? That sounds fun.

I got my '69 CB350 for about $300. Of course, it didn't run and I put way more than $1000 into parts and paintwork by the time I was done rebuilding it. CB350s are also going up in value. You might start with any old Honda twin.

But this is a bicycle forum, not a motorcycle forum.

Might I suggest some motorcycle forums, where you'll get more specialized and diverse information?

I used to know a guy who worked on SAAB cars, who had lost about 85% of his sight to glaucoma. Best damn mechanic I ever met. Also an excellent welder. Which is to say, I think there's proof out there that you can do it and be the best in the field.

We are a bicycing forum, not a motorcycling forum. Good luck with your search.
