Wow, Con Dentes!!!
|
I saw that Gitane Tandem. Would have to have ridden it home, though, no way it was fitting in my car...

Yes it sure was. It did sell and that’s one I hope I don’t regret selling. I did a full rebuild on that one and it turned out pretty well. Hope the buyer enjoys it.

I had a good time, and got a modest haul of useful stuff for cheap. You can't beat $2-$5 Vittoria Corsa/Open tires that look like new take-offs.
But the guys I rode up with did even better. All were worked-in-bike-shops-in-the-70's types, and they spotted fab deals I would have missed. Like a Schwinn Voyageur in decent shape for $30 - with Campy con dente Pista pedals (what?!), and two U08s for $10@ with all sorts of Suntour/Stronglight upgrades. The piece-de-resistance was a ~1979 Gitane Tandem with TA cranks, Campy pedals/headset, Phil hubs, two nice Brooks seats, Cyclone RD in ready to ride condition for $250. It was quite the Tetris puzzle fitting all into the van.

I had a great show. Bike geeks everywhere! Sold 4 out of the six bikes I took with me to sell and a bunch of small parts. I had more fun chatting with all the people that came by my set up and it was great to make a little money at the same time. I always make sure I have full disclosure about any issues with bikes that I sell. I sleep better at night because of that.
For instance I had a decent Benotto for sale, but the seat post was stuck. I sold it at a great discount and the buyer was perfectly fine with it. I was kind of sad selling a few of them, but made room for some new ones in the stable :). |
I saw the tandem and the guy told me, "Make me an offer," and I replied that I'd had one like it and sold it. Saw many of the other bikes mentioned in this thread so far but had no interest in them beyond the academic. I was searching for an '80s tourer and saw only a too-small Univega Specialissima and a ditto Trek 620.

So next year I'm either gonna roll up with your or at least make sure that I'm ahead of you in line!
Were you selling the blue/white Schwinn Tempo? I think I remember seeing that bike at last year's swap if I'm not mistaken. It was awful tempting...if you didn't sell it and it's there next year then three times may be the charm. I'll at least stop by to say hi next time! |

Refresh of this post. The Swap is scheduled for Feb.13th this year. Hope it has a big turn out. I got a big spot and have plenty to clear out. Several nice bikes and a bunch of parts and goodies. Who is planning to go?

I have not been for a few years, and really wanted to go this year. I am a little hesitant with covid spiking, but am still on the fence. Jim
|
I'll be there again. This is always a fun swap. Last year was kind of a bust due to an early morning ice storm and covid restrictions but I still scored some goodies there. Always look forward to this one since it breaks up the long cold winter!
|
OK, who went? I thought turnout was pretty good, both vendors and walk-ins. I sold the three bikes I took down and bought three more. I'm not sure I'm doing this right? :)
|
I skipped on it after last years turnout. Glad to hear attendance is coming back

I skipped last year due to the pandemic but went this year. Had a great time, got a good deal on a Celeste Bianchi frame to build up for my daughter. I always make several circuits around the hall before calling it a day and bring home a backpack full of parts.

Time to revive this thread with the Swap in Westminster about a month away. Who's going and what are you looking for??

I'm going. Don't know what I want until I get there.

I'm trying not to make this a shameless plug, but I'll have a spot with some pretty cool stuff to sell this year. Bikes, parts and goodies. I've always done well and cut deals because it's not for a living and mostly for the conversations with awesome people.

So, not a credit-card-friendly environment? :wtf:
Note: this is quoted from website - https://stopswapandsave.com/faqs-1 Almost all vendors accept cash while many commercial vendors will also accept credit cards or checks. Overall though, cash is still the preferred method of payment. Our event has grown so much over the past several years however that the onsite ATMs always run out of cash by mid-day. Please keep this in mind while planning your payment strategy! On an aside, a lot of bicycles get moved. A LOT of bicycles get moved. Last year I was near the door where bikes came in and it was like crazy. Later (noon-ish) I went to the bike sale corral and it was near empty. |

No, it's not. The bike shops do have credit card machines. But the majority is like a giant indoor yard sale. For bicycles and bicycle stuff. People looking to unload some of their hoard.
