Motobecane takes shape..

I reamed rhe seat tube after undoing the pinch at the clamp bolt. Final cleanup was close to 26.4 so that was the size of post i used. Fortunately i had one. For the french bottom bracket, and yes it is french, not swiss on this 78 grand tourist, i found a decent chromolly spindle in the proper length in my stash. The rest of the parts are just stuff i had, including the brooks flyer i have been wanting to use. The freewheel and chainrings will change. Im thinking about building a wheel with an old shimano 126 cassette hub i have. Also, lights will be added as the front hub is a Panasonic dynamo.
oh, with 700c, it looks like 32s and fenders work. I wouldnt hope for bigger though.

That's a classy build. You ended not using the TA crank.

My kind of build. I feel, during this period of social distancing, I'll be building a few bikes with parts/frames on hand just for the therapy of it.

exactly! Actually my trips to the grocery store are being made by bike. Also i have ordered consumables to be delivered, brake cables and such.

Riding to the store right now feels post apocalyptic.

Since the first of the year I have been doing Alternative day fasting and have dropped close to 30 pounds, the fasting part isn't fun but I eat well on feast days, I am never going to be a little Colombian climber but I have stopped carrying the equivalent of about 6, 5 lb bags of flour :)

Still not going to worry about grams over comfort

Hey what a nice porteur build! How do you like the downtube shifters in combo with those handlebars? I like it on mine...something about the slightly longer reach I enjoy for some reason

actually i have backed up on this waiting for bars i can use with barcons. I usually like the vo porteur bars in 23.8 but these were 22.2. this time i have the bellville coming. The 22.2s will go on a bike for my gf. I was using my voyageur with downtube shifters and enjoyed it but barcons make me extremely happy. My son often runs downtube shifters. I think he thinks I'm an old man...

PJ943 03-24-20 11:34 PM

haha downtube shifters make you the opposite of old! Have to be slightly spritely to shift them quickly in urban settings sometimes. I can understand the love for barcons though, though I've never had them on any of my own bikes. They seem like a more convenient option in general. Nice bike, at any rate! Post an updated pic when you get the new bars on!

Really beautiful. I was once cycling near Biarritz & stopped at a local bike shop. They had a genuine BIC team orange Motobecane that belonged to Luis Ocana, pride of place up on a stand. It was mesmerising.
Always liked Motobecanes!
