Stolen Cinelli - Reward
 

This beautiful Cinelli was stolen in a break-in robbery on Saturday night from Velo Pasadena in Pasadena, CA. This is a very special bike for the shop owner.

We are in fragile times.
while waiting at a social 2 meters from anyone today at the local Harbor Freight with a tool in hand waiting for the cashier...
two individuals had a shopping cart with a 2000 watt generator did a dash for the door...
the cashier caught sight, someone may have captured a video... reportedly tossed in the trunk but too big, the trunk lid bounced up and down as they tore away.

it is going to be a time of increasing stress.

The exclusive brand boutiques are boarding up.

Two teams here have been caught in two weeks leaving Home Depot with $5k cart fulls out the back door.

Local Walgreens pharmacy hit three times by a team headed by a con with juvenile accomplices. Second time the fleeing car crashed with the con running off, leaving the injured kids to get caught. Third time the con found new accomplices and all three caught after a short chase. These 14 and 17-y-o kids had rap sheets and even the 14-y-o from Oakland had a warrant out.

With business and street traffic down in the city, and with fewer cars parked to steal from, the thieves are going to be trying new targets.
With this being a national emergency, maybe shoot-on-sight orders will be implemented?

I'm surprised things haven't been worse to be honest, and maybe it still will. The good people lockdown and the idiots come out to loot. Those were my first thoughts when things were headed this way

Especially now with revenues down, police patrol's hours will be at a minimum, and vigilantism will fill the vacuum.

I was in a small shopping center in Australia a couple of months ago. A young boy grabbed a packet of cigarettes and made a run for it. A boy working in the shop went after him, and came back with the cigarettes.

Seems the theft market is up. Someone just stole my buddy's rusty Motobecane Mirage singlespeed conversion from outside his apartment. It wasn't even a nice singlespeed conversion, just a BMX freewheel screwed onto the original 27" wheels (probably English fw onto French hub), crummy tires, turkey levers. Normally you couldn't give such a bike away. That thief got what was coming, though - trying to ride or sell that bike! :lol:

I really hope the shop owner recovers this excellent Cinelli and it's still in the condition it was in before the theft. As you said, it is a very special bike. I know if I had my Cinelli Supercorsa stolen I would be heart broken.

I kind of hope the police use a couple of very hungry bloodhounds to track the thief down and they eat the thief. Did I say that? No, that's not right.

A special bicycle. I suspect it will soon be on its way to some far away palace and become someone else's wall hanger.

I've been riding around my city, Peoria Illinois, and have mostly had very positive experiences. The worst has been a few folks driving way too fast but generally I see people walking with kids and dogs and spouses. It's kind of heartwarming. We all keep our distance but lots of friendly greetings.

Too bad, at least 2 good photos of the thieves and a pic of what one of them is riding...should be helpful in finding them...it should be har to sell the bike because of its rarity, etc.
If the shop has videos running during the day and has not erased them they might find the thieves casing the place earlier...certainly, they visited the shop beforehand and may be living in the area since they rode in for the heist.
As far as shoot on sight goes let's get real, comments like this in my mind make absolutely no sense.

While it would be fun, and I think well-deserved for looters, thieves, and many others, our society generally frowns on same. That being said, someone comes into my home and steals a bike, or a toaster, or a gallon of ice tea....yes, that someone would be shot, provided I can get them to face me, as shooting an intruder in the back just begs too many questions and gets demonstrators outside your door. Second-guessing is America's true pastime, over-reacting seems to come in a close second.

Shoot on sight orders are deterrence orders. I admire the restraint of store owners during Katrina, the Rodney King riots, etc. Shooting them as they entered the closed store would have quickly stopped that activity. Strictly a deterrent, and that's what they get for being first. In the long run, yes, vicious, dramatic, and violent. That's what seems to trigger hesitation these days. it's easy to debate why such "unfortunate" people are robbing, looting, stealing, later, but during the activity, no one knows the extent of their intent. So shooting works.

New York had a mayor named John Lindsay, who suggested during the Vietnam-era social violence that he'd set up machine guns on the corners and use them. That seemed to work as a deterrent fairly well.

In most civilized societies, there is no need for such violence. I've been to places where the only respected force is the quickest, most violent, and efficient force brought to bear. It happens. It addresses basic human logic in a basic human way. It also produces sour grapes and often delayed reactions that just escalate.

This deal doesn't seem like it was done by some idiot thief. It seems that he knew what he was looking for - maybe for a greedy/crooked collector. Or maybe it will appear on eBay parted out or repainted in a month or so.

In 'murica anymore, they don't even bother to chase shoplifters. If you hurt one while in pursuit, you're goose is cooked.

Maybe- it is pretty easy now to reference things online, look through the window, do an internet search, rank the potentials and select.

Seems to me it would be easier for a garden variety bike thief to sell one of those Pinnies than that Cinelli....

Many police depts. have stopped pursuing non-violent thefts and many are now emptying their jails of such people. A perfect storm recipe for crime waves.

Feel for the owner. I've had a few prized bikes stolen but zero confidence in LEO in these regards. To this day, the loss of the bikes are less of my thoughts but I'm highly irritated at the police WHOM work for us.

I would expect the shop has insurance, so they shouldn't be out monetarily.

As for hope of recovering, maybe the shop could share serial number or any pertinent description. One would perhaps eventually see this as on a popular website or the bike database stolen site. Other bike shops do use it on higher end modern bikes, less luck though on older. My guess though its 99.9% gone.

These days, larger metro and cities WILL not bother with even small theft, car damage, and a missing bike is an absolute waste to them. Suck it up and do what you gotta do, all.

At least c&v is still in demand by someone.

This might be the only bike I'd use for those red bullseye pulleys. Nah, I'd probably deanodize and polish everything. <ducks>

The way some theft here works is whatever is stolen, it is pawned. Then six months later no one notices when it appears for sale, or the pawn ticket isn't paid and the pawn shop sells the item. I have half a box of Snap On tools purchased in pawn shops. Some are from mechanics that quit wrenching, some may be stolen, and some may be from guys who didn't pay their tool truck bills. But the pawn shop owners still have to list any purchases to the LEO, but not pawned items. Just a cheap way to fence by waiting. MH
