Hello - I'm new here & not very techie (more like trekie) - I thot this should probably go to Bianchi girl but I didn't want to just jump into an existing thread so I hope this will work !
I have an old Bianchi that I'm trying to identify - it came out of a barn and has been repainted (badly) so there are no decals - it is stamped Bianchi on the bb & 871315 - it has a B stamped in the top of the lug at the top of the down tube - GIEIMME PATENT stamped around the rt. rear dropout - I've sanded down through the repaint in several spots (looking for decal remnants) and it's Celeste green underneath - crank arms are stamped inside 5/1 170 , 32 in a circle , 9y16"x20 F - 42 & 53 rings - Triomphe or Victory (mostly - I think) - front derailleur is double hinged , rear is Shimano light action (which I assumed is not orig.?) w/ 7 stack - C Record shifters ('87 , '88 ?) - MICHE headset , ttt stem , Kuzuki bars , ROLLS San Marco seat - rear rim is a Weinnman 700c -front is Durex Marchio Despositato Ambrosio 19 - of course I don't know how much of this is original - I'm hoping someone can suggest the year / model and any other helpful info - thanks for your time & knowledge .

Are you saying the cranks or the front derailleur look like Victory? Can you tell if the bottom bracket is Campagnolo? What brakes are on it? Any pics? Send me a few good pics of the bike and I'll get them posted for you. BianchiGirLL@yahoo.com

Yes - both as far as I can tell from what I've seen - the brake levers appear (to me) to be Triomphe and the front derallieur is double hinged (which is Victory - no?) The bb is Campy 36x24F. I'll work on pics - the Nike is rough - try no to laugh (or cry) -I think it was in the barn for a long time and looks to have been rode hard and put away wet before that - possibly ridden from the East Coast ? )or Italy !

Yes I thot maybe he 32 meant '82 but then I'm certainly no Campagnologist !

2 inside circle is 82. 3 inside circle is 83. 32 inside circle is an anomaly.

Here are some pics. It is too bad someone repainted this. I am pretty this is a '88 Giro with a Columbus/Bianchi Formula II frame and fork. I can't really see someone installing Synchro shifters on an older model that had Victory shifters. The headset could be a replacement or it may have been factory installed because they were out of Victory ones.

This looks liek it needs a ton of elbow grease along with tires, cables, chain, actual grease but it should clean up and be a great rider.

Thanx for your expert information - yes I realize it needs the full meal deal (resto) I wanted to find out if it would be worth the. time & $ - so is this a mid level ish model ?also , what components would I need to make it correct ? and can I get the correct decals ? Thanx again.

Not sure what life is like in COVID era times for you, but it seems like this would be a perfect project to take on and have some fun with...especially if the bike fits you. If that is what I think that is, it is one of the Bianchis I really wanted as a youth but had to settle for a Japanese-built Randonneur...

Are the bubs still Campagnolo? The rear rim is certainly a replacement but the front Ambrosio would be OEM. The only other part I see missing is the rear derailleur.

I am going to tell you what I tell everyone; clean and relube this and ride it before painting! Yes it is more work but if for some reason you don't like the ride you are not out the time effort and materials or heaven forbid the cost of a professional repaint.

Now if this was mine I'd start in with thew overhaul. I'd put the wheels in bags along with the shifters and set them aside. When reassembling it I'd of course add cables, chain, tape but also Lool Stop brake pads, I don't mess with NOS CampI pads because they are still 20+/- years old. Although they are the signature look of the Victory brake calipers I might ditch those rusty truncated cone nuts and just put some stainless acorn or cap nuts on. Most of my bikes use a 7spd shipmano HG hubset for the smoother shifting and better supported axle of the freehub design. If it functioned well I'd likely leave that Light Action RD in place, (for a bit) they are cheap but the Slant Parallelogram design shifts smoother than the 1960s old school design of the Victory. For shifters I use some retrofriction from Sachs or the new DiaCompe MicroShift ones.

The catalog shows the '88 Giro in Italian Red with yellow and white decals. I am not sure what color the line was on the Giro but these from a Super Leggera are likely pretty close although you obviouslt don't need the Campione de Italia portion. Yes the hubs are campy - not sure what I'm going to do with it , its actually a bit small for me - I've had it for 10 yrs or so , my employer at the time was having a fund raiser for his sons wrestling team and his neighbor donated the bike - he had no idea what it was & I didn't know it was a Bianchi at the time - just saw the Campy parts and asked how much he wanted - he said $10 - $15 , I gave him $20.
I think I'll work on cleaning /lubing & collecting the needed parts - the paint is probly the easy part for me - I was an auto body tech for 40 yrs and have connections in the biz.

The Miche headset is OEM spec and just another sign of Bianchi's penny pinching. By this time you couldn't even get a full Formula II frameset. All the Formula II models were tretubi versions with lower grade Aelle stays. The ill performing Syncro levers are also OEM spec. The only non-OEM components that I can see are the saddle and pedals.

Yes - the pedals I hadn't mentioned but wondered about since they're Japanese (also the bars & Shimano derailleur - & the Weinnman rim ? - What would be the correct seat , pedals etc.? Thanx for your input.

OEM pedals were Look PP75 (clipless). The handlebars would be 3TTT Criterium, to match the stem. The rear derailleur was Campagnolo Victory. Rims would be Ambrosio Super Elite 19. Saddle was Selle Italia Super Mundialita.

Try posting in the ISO thread ( https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...-part-5-a.html ) for the parts. If that fails, there's always Ebay.

The OEM tyres are pretty narrow, 700 x 20C. These days most riders want to fit the fattest possible tyres. I'm not sure exactly what these frame will accommodate. Anybody? I imagine current the tyres are somewhat bigger than OEM, so you can always check the size markings on them.

I also just noted that the brake levers aren't Victory, which have grip/lightening holes drilled in them. However, the catalogue picture doesn't showed drilled levers either, so it just appears to be another case of the factory downgrading so save a few lira.
