Hope all of us can get back to playing gigs soon.

you're too kind, ty.

The co-op I frequent tried to recruit me just before the end of the world. I've turned down candy store jobs before, but my ears perked at the 10% over cost QBP deal. I wont have the time till my "homeschooling" responsibility's are over. At some level I'm also interested in getting under the "corporate" insurance umbrella and cranking out a volume of work. My previous trade involved a lot of cost benefit decisions. As far as I know, my personal work didn't get any one killed, but my bosses BS sure as hell did.
Typical conversation:

Crew: do you think she'll make it?

Boss: sign right here.

Me: Bring 2 trash pumps.

our coop doesnt do qbp but the shop im working in does. I spent many years as a welder for a construction equipment manufacturer and like doing anything but now. For me the whole deal hinges on low expenses. Cheap house, cheap neighborhood, cheap car and dare i say... inexpensive gf. Riding a bike to a bike shop to work is pretty high on my list of cool life scenarios.

Its an hour and some by car to the co-op so It will be a big commitment to volunteer there. I've had some nebulous conversations about starting a satellite Co-op, but dont have the time. Slowly creating the infrastructure in the meantime though.

How'd it go with the hydralics? Learn any new trix?

crank_addict 04-11-20 11:31 AM

All good 52T

If I recall, my usual visit LBS has their employees for new bike unpacking and build, based per unit, not hourly. The younger fellows told me they prefer it.

Many a times, its not about the pay. Stay busy and every little bit one does for the community is good.

cheers!

the hydraulics are pretty easy. The main thing is getting the caliper to not move when tightening the bolts.

in this shop there is no piecework. The head wrench is pretty big on quality. We adjust the wheel bearings and torque everything properly. Every wheel gets in the wheel stand. Its way less common practice than one might think.
