Casati serial numbers

I recently purchased an NOS Casati Laser frameset - not exactly vintage, but it's steel and has a horizontal top tube. The bottom bracket is stamped with the size (58) and 2796. Does anyone know how their serial numbers work? Should I assume it was made in 1996?

Can't help you with that one, I just checked my golden gold line but all it says is "199"
