My "TEN SPEEDS" has been sold...

First, thanks to other members who have brought this to my attention. I appreciate it when we look after each other. Anyway...

I was approached last winter, while in Jamaica, to sell my website. A short negotiation and that was that. Sadly, the fellow who bought the site contacted me a couple of days ago to inform me that it had been hacked. He is hoping that I can help. I might be able to do so but not until I get back to Ontario. Not even sure that going to Ontario, these days, is a good idea. Anyway...

I miss the website also and feel for the buyer. I will do my best to help in a couple of weeks. Again, thanks to those who expressed email concern. My hope here is to help others understand and not feel the need to let me know personally.

I would also like to thank all of you who have been so gracious with your comments about the website, over the years.

Randy, you may want to remove the link in your signature line to your old website. When I clicked on it my AVG spam alert went crazy.

It was a great web site. I went there often and learned a lot, from Raleigh to Legnano, bikes you featured, and bikes I ride and love. Best wishes to you, sorry about the low life hacker. May both of his tires go flat. 🤬

Your site introduced me to the world of vintage bikes, specifically the Apollo line-up in Canada. From there, I got introduced to the Miyata 1000. I have you to thank for that.
Best wishes all around.

Randy, you may want to remove the link in your signature line to your old website. When I clicked on it my AVG spam alert went crazy.
Though it grieved me deeply, I did that yesterday. This post is to see if it worked. Hope so.

edit: Nope, did not work. Will try again.

I thank you for that and I have already forwarded it to the new owner of MY "TEN SPEEDS". I do hope that he can get the site back up and running. Again, thanks for the help.

That sucks! I hope he gets it back and I'm sorry that something you worked so hard on is being attacked. I don't know if it's related, but criminals are taking advantage of the pandemic. 2 break-ins at local bike shops here in Seattle and on the tech side of things there have been lots of reports of Coronavirus scams, phishing, etc.

Depending on how deeply the Wayback Machine burrowed into (pre-catastrophe) My Ten Speeds, one should be able to recreate much/most/all of that website on one's hard drive using wget. Then set HTML Tidy on everything in the file structure on your hard drive, compress the result into a single ZIP file -- or, since we're classic 'n' vintage, into a tarball -- and you have something you can distribute via Google Drive or whatever.

Another C&V'er that got inspiration from Randy's site here. Hope things work out for the best, many of us are missing the place badly.

Sad to see it go, I too learned a lot there. Take care!

And, when will your next site launch? Will that be 12, 14 or will you take it up to 20..?
