Here's sample product copy for the SS-5 levers, if they were listed on the Rivendell site:
"These levers are rooted in the past, but they are elegant and will never become obsolete. Best of all, they look good with thumbshifters. They're lightweight, if that matters to you. All bushings pre-lubricated with lanolin."

Here you go: https://ebay.com/itm/Dia-compe-Mounta...AAAOSwjZZeqzwy
Get some SS-5 stickers off another set and these will look good as new.

You may find yourself in the C&V section.
And you may find yourself following a long wandering thread.
And you may ask yourself, "My God, how much time have I wasted?!"

The bidder is just upping their limit. Can you imagine how embarrassing it might be if you've inadvertently insulted a forum member?

I'm pretty sure people who spend time attempting to point out the flaws in others are generally the most prone to having unresolved issues. I also never said anything has to stay in a box forever, and already explained above how I was exaggerating/being sarcastic in my first reply to this thread. I could have a mint copy of Superman #1 and if I sell it to someone for the price I'm asking, they can use it for toilet paper for all I care.
And, by the way, that doesn't mean I don't believe there's room to leave some rare items sealed until there aren't enough left open to meet demand for actual use. I don't buy sealed vintage bicycle parts because there are already open ones I can get cheaper. But if I came into possession of a rare part in it's original packaging and could find another to use, I would be inclined to leave it packaged until I sold it as an investment. What the next person does with it really isn't my business.

And don't you see that your second statement causes the prices of those in-use items to increase further, frustrating the decent people caught in the middle? You aren't doing anyone any favors...

Wow! is all I can say. However I have a little fuel to put on this fire. I bought something from this same E-Bay seller, And it came in today's morning postal delivery. Now I am completely confused. I believe the buyer is refusing to open the box! It is a nice box and appears to have been gently packed and sealed:

However, I am afraid to open the box! What if I discover that the parts inside are actually what I ordered and agreed to pay for them? What do I do if I find they are in better condition than I thought they would be? Will I devalue the parts inside if I open the box? Way too many questions for a feeble mind. Perhaps the seller should just flag me as being not very smart.... So should I open the mystery box? Or just let all of the questions fester in my less than functional brain? Ben, I'll bet we could play guess what's in MH's mystery box. That should propel this thread to way over 200 posts.
Smiles, MH

Mad Honk, it's obvious this box needs dispersal. Please send it to me to ensure proper and safe recycling of the contents.

Dispersal of this box would be undo-able, unless it is going to be another of those Box 'O Crap games. But if you want me to send it to you to dispose of, I get the drift! And it may be an option for my feeble mind. As for the suspected contents they could be safely recycled. I would prefer to keep them though. As I suggested to Ben it may drive this thread to 200 posts if folks were to guess what is in the box. Just my simple stoopid humor going on here. But this box is from the same seller and it may shed some light on the veracity of the discussion of the value of trusting your seller. And as I said it could bring Ben's wish to get to 200 posts to fruition. And Kurt you know the stuff in the box is likely made out of our favorite material found on the table of elements as #493 UnObtainium. As you know it is very difficult to find and hold for more than it's half life. As always, MH
