First Gen Cannondale SR series rebuild!

Hey ya'll.

I totally restored and built what would be close to an SR800 from the 80s. A first generation SR series frame. full campagnolo to mirror a bicycle I built for myself back when I worked in a shop. ENJOY>

Bicycling, if memory serves me correctly, would have a Cannondale crochet glove ad on the back cover of.the magazine. I remember reading about the Cannondale oversized aluminum frame. The ad for the frame had a rider squatting on the rear dropouts of the bare frame. Great video, and I think restoring the bike tells a story of bicycling innovation, and technical trade-offs through the years.

Beautiful SR. Out here in the NW, we'd likely call it an Oregon Ducks build due to the green and yellow. I liked the Eddie Bauer / Ford callout. Seen a bunch around. Also, car guy.

Your memory is correct. Showing how stiff the frame was and how strong.

I purchased a Green Audi A-4 Allroad in Green with the Tan interior. My friends that work at the store called me and told me my Eddie Bauer edition audi was in...lol

We had a defective frame back in the 80s from cannondale. So we did a test like we saw in the ad. We were bouncing on it pretty good till finally it gave way. I weighed about 185 back then.

Oh man, great joke, but man, Eddie Bauer Editions are for Fords not Audis! That had to have been a little annoying. First gen Miatas (among others) came in that combo, M Edition mostly it seemed. Looked sharp.

I was recently in the market for a more practical vehicle than my '97 Camaro Z28, and I had a long time crush on the '04-06 update of the Lexus LS430. Briarwood Pearl was one of the really nice colors (especially in the sun) that they came in, and I test drove one. They often paired with a tan (ok, "Cashmere") interior--a color which I liked a whole lot more than I thought I would--and I joke to myself that Briarwood over Cashmere is the King Ranch Edition LS430. I ended up picking up a black over black example and am thoroughly enjoying "Peak Couch"...and headroom...and a proper back seat...and trunk...and near silence.

And if there was YouTube back then, you would have had a 1M views.

Until I was 21, I rode used bikes, and at 6’2” and 165lbs they were usually too small, I remember the chain ring rubbing the front derailleur out of the saddle. After reading about the Cannondale, I learned about bottom brackets flexing.

Lastly, large flange hubs, also in keeping with stiffness theme?

I'd like to tell you the use of Large Flange hubs were for mechanical reasons. YES< they do make a stiffer wheel. I do like that. However I used them because of their physical beauty. I have a Large flange hub fetish.. lol

Thanks
