Anyone seen the Rider T1 from Terra One? Apparently some guy was bemoaning the lack of appropriate tires for vintage MTBs so he started a company and started making them himself. They have a good look. I may try a set.

I wore out a set of RTP and they are fast.

I’m now running the Continental Contact Speed 26x2.0 for both front and rear on the smooth tire wheels, and now that is warmer and drier, I have both wheels in use.

All winter I ran both the knobby tire wheels with the Race Kings to deal with the mess.

In the spring I rode for a while with a Race King in front and the Contact Speed in the rear.

The Contact Speed tires are about 1000 times easier to deal with than the RTP, at least on my rims. The Contact Speed rolls really well, too. Probably a couple more watts than the RTP.

However, Continental doesn’t really seem to export the 2.0” version to the US, so they aren’t easy to find here.

I agree! I run the Extralight RTPs tubeless, and at first I was disappointed that they were "louder" than I had expected... but now I really love the sound, especially on gravel... I guess it's kinda like getting used to the Chris King free hub "killer bee" ratchet sound...

Anyone have any experience/opinions regarding Ritchey Speedmax Beta in the 2.0" width? I just bought a set from an ebay seller, planning on using them on a mid-80's Univega Alpina for a nearby hardpack trail and the short road stint to get to it. Will be fine for your usage but they are rather low volume and skinny. I would prefer something wider with more volume.

I’m running a Kenda K838 Slick Wire Bead Bicycle Tire, Blackwall, 26-Inch x 1.95- on the rear and a 1.5 straight tread on the front. Going for less resistance.

anybody riding on Serfas Drifter tires? I'm thinking of Serfas Drifters for my Electra Townie in 26 x 2.00 or 26 x 2.15.

I wanted another pair of the Maxxis 2.15 in DTH for an old Mongoose ATB I was building up. The best deal I could find at the time was on those with a darker sidewall and what they call "EXO" sidewall protection. They look OK but I like the look of the originals better. The sidewall seems stiff as compared to the original and does not give as cushy of a ride. If you want DTHs, stick with the non EXO version.

Hey all looking for some white 26ers, is the simworks homage still available in white? Anyone know of others that are available?

We got an old Raleigh Technium MTB for one of our kids, but I ended up donating a front wheel and two of the Contact Speed tires to get it set up.

So, I’m already running the Race Kings on my MTB, despite the dry trail conditions. Actually they are really fast. The rear tire is a bit noisy on pavement and it’s a bit of a waste to wear it down on dry trails and pavement . The front one, OTOH, could just as well be the year round tire as it doesn’t get much wear.

So, once it arrives, I’m going to try out perhaps the best remaining option for a really fast rear tire: the Continental Speed King. Hopefully it goes on and off easy like a Race King, not hard like the RTP! My hope would be to run it all year round except in the really messy parts of the winter when I will swap in the Race King rear wheel.

On CraigList, there's an ad out in Denver (CO) for a pair of "basically new" PanaRacer Sim-Works "The Homage" tires, 26x1.95". No idea whether they've been sold yet, as the ad's two months old (but still up).

Looks like all of the normal sources for the Sim-Works "Homage" tire (in creme/tan) are out of stock, from what I can find.

Any ballpark idea what shipping is to the US?

The Speed King got here from Germany to the USA in only a couple of days. I have it set up as the rear tire on the MTB and took it for the first ride today. It handled the trails after rain with no trouble. So it will be fine for dry and damp conditions. Probably not the thing for really messy conditions in winter.

Anyway, maybe slightly faster than a Race King but hard to compare with stickier trails today. Race Kings are already so fast.

Good news was that it was ridiculously easy to install! As easy as the Race King and nothing like the ordeal of dealing with the RTPs. Just about fell onto the rim and popped nicely in place with a bit of soapy water to ease the process.

So far, so good!

bringing up an old thread. Serfas drifters on my old mountain bike. I know they say 40-65lbs on the side wall but even at 40psi they seem pretty rock hard. they roll well.
